Edit: Damnit he did drive on the play lol. I didn't remember it but went back to check. I don't think it had anything to do with the TO (Favs just fumbled it), but I don't want to be inaccurate. Took out the original comment because it wasn't accurate.
Well he has already succeeded in that so far this season. And yet you keep trying to create some level of negative plays that aren't there with any more regularity than other players. It's the whole point of my posts about this topic and looking at the plays themselves. He's not making...
I welcome this. There's nothing worse than lazy BS analysis from memory. Our memories are known to be extremely unreliable. What you really need to do as well is watch other players very specifically. You'll most likely see that players tend to make mistakes somewhat often.
I only commented on plays that were up in the air, or good because he was involved in a specific part of the play. He had a ton of defensive possessions where he played good defense. So happily Dante did live up to your standard even on the first stint. You can't make a great play every time...
He did not force bad passes outside of the first one. That simply isn't true. He absolutely did not throw off target passes in the first stint. You are making that up. It's annoying that you just throw things like that out when I already did the work of watching for it and tried to add context...
Oh I totally agree with that. I don't think he should have played at the end of the game. I'm fine with him just playing reserve minutes all year. Ricky is the starter and he should be in at the end unless there is some weird situation. I just get annoyed with all the nit-picking of Exum. Guys...
The Jazz players get caught up in screens all the time. The Jazz defense uses a combination of going over or under screen depending on the shooter and situation. I watched the first quarter again. Here are some basic bullet point plays.
-Mitchell got caught on a screen for the first three and...
He had one TO in the game. He didn't throw bad passes. He threw one bad pass (a pass that other guys did multiple times as well), and one that the big kind of fumbled on the break but didn't lead to a TO. I remember him not losing Nader exactly but being slightly out of position and contesting a...
Terrible is quite an overstatement. Please go back and watch that sequence. He had a TO to start and then after that made some solid plays. He had an assist for a 3, he missed a layup on a good cut, he tipped in a miss on a fastbreak, and was pretty nondescript the rest of the time. Only with...
Agreed. At worst you give up a contested 2 and have time to take a good shot to win or tie. Allowing that 3 was just a complete breakdown. Our guard play really failed down the stretch. Lots of casual TO's and mistakes that led to bad shots. And then the defensive breakdown.
IDK he does do a bit more analysis and has his own OC. I don't always like it or agree with him and he is insufferable when fans question the FO or staff. But if you can wade through all that and ignore the stupid PAAC friday thing he generally produces some stuff you wouldn't get elsewhere...
YEah this is one of the few games where I think the coaching really hurt the Jazz. They missed a ton of open shots as well and it probably shouldn't have mattered. When you start missing shots all over the place guys get tight. But those PnR's at the end, and the offensive execution during that...
Come on man be honest about it. I said it was a small sample size right in the damn comment on this page. And I am mostly using it tongue in cheek because it's funny that Exum has a higher one this year even though I don't like it. I thought that was also pretty clear. I didn't say you were only...
Not really. There have been a lot of young players with small roles that had lower PER's. During those seasons Exum wasn't a good offensive player by that measurement. You need more context than a number like PER to understand how a young player is developing. That is one example where PER fails...
He's limited by the role they give him. He could have scored and assisted more with more usage last year. But that's going to end up just being an opinion thing, so what's the point? I already know your feelings for Exum. I'm comfortable with my opinion. I wouldn't think any differently of him...
I just think you can get a much better picture of a player by looking at some simpler stats. TS%, Usage, rebound% among many others. Those combined with watching the games and looking at the context of the numbers is how I try to evaluate players. WS is another stat that I don't really have much...
Good defensive low usage offensive players often have bad PER's. But in Exum's case I think his PER just shows the limited role he's had offensively. Big guys also seem to benefit quite a bit from rebounding as it relates to PER which makes sense in Gobert's case.
PER is fine when comparing similar roles or players. It doesn't really give you much outside of knowing that high usage guys who fill a stat sheet are awesome at it. You feel free to keep using it though since most of the analytics community has rejected it as a truly useful stat.
