You're too optimistic. Even losing Exum made the defense considerably worse. Losing Gobert on top of that means they lose half of their inside defense after losing half of their outside defense. They basically have 3 real good NBA players left now : Favors, Hayward and Burks. It doesn't make a...
It will hurt them even more with their paper thin roster. Booker and Neto (or Burke) as NBA starters is a scary thought. I'm not sure they can make the playoffs now, they may be at least 10 or 15 games behind when Gobert comes back, which could be too much to overcome.
My dream scenario is...
I think Exum's injury hurts them a lot more than we thought. For all his defaults, he was a great defender and he brought a lot of size, plus some 3 point shooting. Now every PG can run to the Jazz hoop freely. Gobert / Favors can't block everything, they just don't get enough help here.
Neto /...
Only watched the first half vs mavericks but he was absolutely trounced inside. When Kanter was on the floor, Dallas scored either a dunk or a layup every time.
Kanter sucks. That's why he lost playing time in Jazz team and he's playing even less now in OKC.
What he gives you on offense (where he's great though), he takes it back and more by not defending. PER doesn't show the lack of defense, watch defensive rating or DBPM.
No, he's not doing fine at all for a max contract player. He's playing like 17 mpg recently and he's mostly on the bench because his defense is still terrible. He never plays money time either. So hardly a success for OKC.
Hardly a success for him either : he left for more playing time and now...
Just watched the game again. Jazz played really well and so did the Hawks. We're sometimes too harsh with Jazz players.
Not many teams would have won this game.
The pure comedy is OKC gave a max contract to a guy who's now on the bench and plays only 20 mpg (never in money time) because he still can't defend.
The right to sign this stupid contract was worth a 1st round pick + Pleiss.
When there are injuries you see how paper thin this roster is. When neither Gobert or Favors is on floor, the team falls apart.
Nice plays by Withey though.
