The governor of New Mexico has declared a state of emergency over gun violence. By the governor's order, the Public Health Emergency Response Act and the All Hazard Emergency Management Act have been invoked which grants broad powers that include the ability to ban possession of any and all firearms by anyone other than the police outside of their own homes. The state of emergency granting the governor unilateral power to suspend civil rights has no end date.

The Bernalillo County Sheriff held a press conference making it very clear that no one from the Bernalillo County Sheriff's will enforce this law. He says it will do nothing to curb gun violence because criminals already don't follow laws, and it is unconstitutional.

Emergency orders were issued by New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham suspending the right to carry firearms in public in and around Albuquerque.

Immediately after the press conference, the governor said she will go around Bernalillo County Sheriff's defiance by having the New Mexico State Police enforce her emergency suspension of constitutionally guaranteed civil liberties.

New Mexico's State Attorney General, who is a Democrat, has informed the Governor of New Mexico that his office will not defend her order as he claims it is unconstitutional.
