Airline Help

So we booked a trip to Japan through Kayak a couple of months ago. About a month after we booked it we got an email saying that they've moved our departure flight from SLC up from 10:30 am to 7:05 am. I was pretty upset because this means we have to leave our house at 4:00 in the morning now and we can sit in LAX for an extra 3 hours waiting for our connection. Yesterday I got another email saying they've now moved our return flight from LAX to SLC from 3:30 pm to 6:40 pm. So on the way home after we fly in from Japan we now get to sit in LAX for an extra 3 hours. My question to you guys who may have more experience with this kind of stuff is can we do anything about this? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. For the record, I hate American Airlines. Fortunately we are only flying on them to and from LAX.

How many other SLC to LAX, LAX to SLC flights are around those times during those days that would be better? I bet you could get it switched to another airline without too much hassle if you call in and there are other flights. Maybe add in a story about how your wife(or whoever the "we" is) is flying in at 7:30 or works the night shift at Walmart/The Hospital until 8:00 am that morning or something so no way you guys could make that 7:00 am flight so they won't hit you with fees.

These things happen especially when you do not book directly through the airline. When we were in Germany for a quick 1 week trip back in January I got notice on my phone the morning we were leaving that our 9:30 am connecting flight to Frankfurt had been outright cancelled. We called and they said the only available flight was leaving at 6:30. It was 5:00 am when I got the message. By the time we got everything ready to go it was almost 6. So we got in the cab and told the driver our plane leaves at 6:30. She drove like a bat out of hell and they actually held the flight for us because I raised a pretty big stink about the late notice of the cancellation. We made the flight but it made for a harrowing couple of hours. You need to call kayak or the airline directly.

Thanks for the suggestions. There are 6 of us (including 2 small children). 6 hours in an airport with small children ain't no good time for nobody. I just can't think of any other business where someone can purchase one thing and have something else delivered and the business is like, "Well, sucks to be you." I don't think people would tolerate a car dealership delivering a different car than the one that was purchased. I wonder why airlines can get away with it?

Yeah but better too long between flights as too short. Missed flights often end up in full day or overnight waits.

Ummmm, just get drunk in LA and pass out on the plane ride over the ocean. Win win.

Wait... what? Your cab driver was female? Impossible!

Female and feisty. Drove like a crazy person. My wife and I talked about it afterward and we both thought she was going to kill us. But she got us to the airport damn fast.

For the record, the Leipzig airport is a very nice airport, but it is WAY to freaking big for a small airport. We probably ran 4 football fields to get to our plane. It was nuts.

Female and feisty is much better than male and comatose, I guess. I once took a limo with my family from NYC to a location in Jersey. I was in the front seat and the driver seemed to be getting drowsy so I was keeping my eye on him when suddenly he fell asleep and swerved left. I grabbed the wheel and straightened us out. That woke him up. We were all pretty freaked out the rest of the way. I thought my (now ex)wife was going to kill him. Fortunately we reached our destination safely, but I did not tip him. I think he was happy to get out of there because he was incredibly embarrassed.
