Andray Blatche - Amnesty (5th Big)

It looks like WAS is going to Amnesty Blatche.

"The Washington Wizards are leaning toward using the amnesty provision by Tuesday’s deadline to waive forward Andray Blatche, according to league sources......Washington is still wavering on whether using the amnesty provision — and writing Blatche a check for the remaining $23 million on his contract. The Wizards have been trying to deal Blatche since the end of the season, but haven’t found any deals to their liking.

.....They could also keep Blatche on the roster but keep him away from the team while they continue to pursue trades or, perhaps, a contract buyout, in the same way the Indiana Pacers kept guard Jamaal Tinsley at arm’s length for a year before finally reaching a settlement on his contract.

....Reached late Monday afternoon, team president Ernie Grunfeld was noncommittal, texting, “we shall see. We have 24 hours.”

Now this kid is classified as a knucklehead, ala Tinsley or Howard. Is he worth having as our 4th or 5th big at the Vet Minimum if he clears?

I know the Whiteside thread was posted but I would rather take the upside of Blatche personally.

Thoughts?

No. He is so soft he makes toilet paper look like sandpaper. Really he just takes bad shots and rarely does the thing you want your big men to do.

No, he is the opposite type of player who you look to be the 5th big. You want a hard worker who knows his role, not a talented, yet lazy bum who thinks he is an All-Star.

Tinsley and Howard were both big parts in winning teams. Blatche has been a part of awfulness.

I'd rather see the Jazz stay away from him. I do have a question though. Blatche has 3 years left on his contract (counting 12-13). I know in making amnesty bids teams have to include money for all of the guaranteed years on the contract. But if Blatche is amnestied and cleared waivers, would teams be able to sign him for just one year?

Can't think of any reason whatsoever that the Jazz should waste any time on Blatche.

That was the most pathetic trip-dub attempt ever. The dude ran around like a child for an entire minute.

Just the way he acted about it. Davis did his without making a big deal about it.

Blatche's was more pathetic, Davis's was more dickish.

I would reverse the two. It's dickish to get mad at teammates for getting rebounds and pathetic to shoot at the wrong basket to try for a triple-double.

He asked Yi Janlian to let him get the rebound, he over-dramatized every failed attempt for a rebound by running around for 10 seconds, he then sprinted down the court to miss a shot and get his own rebound. The whole time it felt like I everyone on the court was feeling 2nd hand embarrassment for the guy, so no one really got mad at him and did their best to ignore him/laugh with him.

Ok, it was dickish AND pathetic. That's still putting it mildly.

How could you guys not want something that is so unpolished with upside? To me he is a poor mans Brook Lopez without the money but with more upside as he has never gotten the coaching he needed in WAS. Now that he has been in the league 6 years maybe this is his wakeup call and a change of teams is what he needs to turn into a solid player. I could see him in a few years being a solid big and part of a 3 or 4 man rotation as a back up. I guess I am crazy and the only one that would consider it... (Of course at a low price)

Then again I was for bringing in Howard and Tinsley and taking the risk vs. reward. I feel that we won on both of those pick ups even though Howard played like crap after his injury.
