Another Car Question!

Question for y'all...what do you value more in a vehicle? Newer year or lower miles? Example, would you rather buy a 2008 vehicle with low miles or a 2014 vehicle with high miles? I know I usually care more about the mileage than the year, but I know other people that are just the opposite. So what do you think and why?

Within the same realm of that question...how would you feel about buying a vehicle with a salvage title?

I'm asking because I found a 2008 Tundra Double Cab with 21k miles. Backup camera, remote start, TRD package...it's a nice pickup. The ad said that it was an accident, driver side panel of the bed had to be replaced and it got a salvage title because of this. Now obviously if there's frame damage it's a no-go...but would you do it? He's asking $22k, but I think he would drop it below $20k. Even then, lot of money for a potential wrecker. And yeah, I know, bring it to a shop/mechanic...of course, but I don't want to waste my time going out there if people with knowledge say it's stupid, ya know?

Id be pretty cautious. The guy might have rolled back the odometer. You can check the vin with the state the title is from for mileage reports. I drive a rebuilt title car right now, but I got a great deal on it, and I knew what had happened to it prior to purchase.

Rebuilt titles aren't bad, but you need to be careful. Low mileage with rebuilt titles are a HUGE red flag.

No to salvaged title.
Lower miles > than newer year...... though only if the years are closer than in your scenario.

I agree with this. I would have to get a really really good deal and be able to take a car into a shop and do a thorough inspection to buy a salvage title vehicle. Unless its like a cheap beater car for a kid or something like that I would avoid the salvage one.

Ive seen too many salvage title cars with shady stuff to buy one for that kind of money.

I value lower mileage over newer vintage.

I'll echo what others are saying about the salvage title. I drove one for a long time and it was fine, but I knew exactly what had happened to it and had a great inspection.
