Best Halloween Movie

So, every October we only watch Halloween movies. So far I have:

Aliens
The Crazies
Zombieland
Tucker & Dale vs Evil
Shaun of the Dead
Poltergeist
The 'Burbs
Hocus Pocus

We love it all. What do we need to add to our list?

One of my favorites might be up your alley (sounds like you like the Halloween or scary movies with interspersed comedy), it's Drag Me to Hell. Sam Raimi doing horror again and the absurdity of a lot of situations wind up being pretty hysterical AND scary!

One of my favorites is fairly recent. The Conjuring. It went back to basics with eminently creepy setups that yielded jump out of your chair scary moments without resorting to shock-fest gore in every scene. One of the truly scary movies in recent years.

I also like Insidious. For all the crap it gets now, Paranormal Activity is fairly creepy and scary.

But for whatever reason I found Blair Witch to be boring. I saw it in theaters and actually fell asleep at one point. It would have been better if there had been just a tad more of a reveal at the end, imo.

DMTH was pretty good. Another that didn't just rely entirely on gore.

To me that is the lost art of the horror movie. Ever since movies like Hostel hit the scene, they have resorted to trying to out-gore each other, and have created nauseating movies that really aren't all that scary, tbh. There needs to be a different genre for shock-movies, or torture-porn movies separate from mainstream horror. Then again, I don't watch horror movies as much as I did when I was younger so there might be that division out there and I just haven't been part of it at all.

Evil Dead/ Army of Darkness

For another film with some humor try Army of Darkness, another Sam Raimi film. One of my favorites.

Aww heyhey beat me to it.

The Thing if you love great horror. Trick 'R Treat is enjoyable and generally unknown. If you are into weird awesome camp, watch the 1977 Japanese movie House.

Thanks for the responses. I've added those to the list. Watched "You're Next" last night. Not too bad.

Watching "The Possession" tonight.

Loved Cabin in the Woods. Almost made the rewatch list.

Just finished "The Posession". Very good. Enjoyed it a lot.

I agree with The Thing (Carpenter's version), The Conjuring, and Drag Me to Hell. Intelligently made flicks.

I also loved The Strangers which was not well received but embodied great psychological terror, which in film, to me, is the most terrifying kind. The idea of being completely and utterly helpless, in the middle of nowhere, people you don't know, terrorizing you, for no reason other than to terrorize you is pretty scary stuff. The director used sound, or lack thereof, in some scenes quite well to create the tension.

Man, the Strangers freaked me out. Nothing like a pair of Mormon missionaries stumbling on a tradegy.

Watched "The Crazies" with Timothy Olyphant. Great movie. Good story, good twist, lots of moments that make you jump. Great movie.

Tonight was Seven. Or Se7en, depending on how cool you are. Great acting. Big names. Big ending. Good movie. Not jump out and scare you, but very disturbing.
