Bosh soft

Bosh is taking heat today for his postgame comments after Saturday night’s 99-96 loss to the Bulls in Chicago, a game in which Bosh appeared to hurt his ankle after Chicago’s Omer Asik accidentally rolled onto his leg chasing after a loose ball.

According to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, Bosh didn’t take too kindly to Asik’s tenacity:
“C’mon, that is how guys get hurt, that is how serious injuries happen. You’ve got to watch people’s legs. I know guys want to hustle and everything but we all want to play and provide for our families and have a job. …We all want to be healthy and that is very important. If it is by somebody’s leg, don’t dive for the ball, it’s too close.”

wow really? bosh sucks

...frankly, I agree with Bosh! You've got too many yahoo's out there playing with reckless abandon! I'm surprised more NBA players don't end up with broken necks, fractured spines, and dislocated elbows! But it is....what it is! When you have 250 pound guys throwing their bodies around with no regard for life or limb....your going to have injuries, some of them quite serious in nature!

Yep Bosch you sure gotta be careful. You might stub your toe. Tell your namby-pamby stories to this guy.

3. Game 7 1970 Knicks-Lakers
In the lead-up to Game 7, it appeared that Knicks center Willis Reed would not play as he suffered a muscle tear in his right thigh in the first quarter of Game 5 and missed Game 6.

Reed was not amongst the players in pre-game warm-ups, suggesting he was not going to play.

Suddenly out of the locker room came Reed to a thunderous ovation from the Madison Square Garden crowd.

Reed started the game and scored the first four points to give the Knicks an emotional lift, as they would rout the Lakers 113-99 to clinch the first NBA championship for New York.

That guy would have said the same thing if he had guys out there hustling around them. People get hurt when "crazies" around them are hustling for the ball. Could you imagine if another Asik was in that game and rolled into Reed, and tore another muscle? That's messed up... just leave basketball to the professionals.

The point is it is a sport. In sports injuries happen. Fluke injuries even like Okur running down the lane and tripping on a line painted on the floor or whatever and popping his achilles tendon. The focus has shifted however from "competing at all costs", since, you know, that is kind of the point of sports, to "protect the investment". Of course players should be careful, heal up from injuries, take care of their bodies, etc., etc. But the Boozers of the world are shameful compared to the Reeds and Malones of the world (remember Malone playing the last 1/3 of a season and playoffs with a broken finger?). If you don't want to play hard and risk an injury then don't play. And if you let a minor injury take you out of the game, your desire has to be questioned imho. The great players take risks and play as hard as they can and compete even when banged up a little.

Read this more closely:

Top concern in bold above; gotta make sure you can earn the $12 mill again next year because it is so hard to provide for your impoverished family on just the $100 mill or so you have earned so far.

Worried about people taking out your legs? Dive for the ball yourself Bosh. If you are both diving for it you could take Asik out instead, or at least meet head-on. I would rather go down diving for the ball than dancing out of the way. Case in point.

The last thing we want to see is someone get hurt. The second to last thing we want to see is someone afraid to compete.
