What's new

Breakout players

Jazz have 3 breakout players because they lost 2 of their best 3 players and almost 40ppg in scoring. Someone is going to have to make up those points.

Exum was better on D last year coming off the ACL than in his rookie season? Haha... ok.
I don't know if he was better than his rookie year or not but I thought he was fantastic last year.

he screwed up a lot on switching and the team defense part but man on man he is still a very good defender

If the refs stop crucifying him and he stops making dumb mistakes I think he'll take a step up defensively this year as well as being less of a liability offensively

I think Joe Ingles is going to be a breakout player

If he starts, maybe his PPG goes from 8 to 12. I still think he's limited. Of course, Rubio is going to make everyone better by getting the open players the ball. I've underestimated Ingles before, though. But I also wouldn't be surprised to see Quin try a Rubio/Mitchell backcourt with Hood at SF and Ingles coming off the bench.

Of the three players mentioned, I think Favs is likely to have the most impact. Exum will be a backup. Hood was playing well when not injured. But Utah really didn't have a healthy Favs at any time. Favs could easily have a 16/8 season - with even more impact on the defensive end. That's why I'm excited. Utah potentially has 3 great 2-way players in Gobert, Favors and Mitchell.

I like it. I also wouldn't be surprised to see a Rubio/Mitchell/Hood/Ingles/Gobert lineup. Switch out Gobert for Favors to get Derrick his minutes, and both of those lineups could be very effective for us.

If all 3 "break out", Mitchell lives up to the hype and Gobert increases his offensive usefulness this Jazz team will far outperform the Vegas odds. Hell if only some of that happens the Jazz out perform

The Roster and "breaking out"

Rubio - If he continues what he did the last half of last season and what he is doing in Fiba this summer. (staying Healthy also) would be a break out year for Rubio.

Exum - Continues his development and continues what he was doing in summer league into the regular season. Consistently hit 3 pointers and play very good defense he will demand minutes.

Hood - Needs to get to the free throw line and be consistent on the court. (Stay Healthy also)

DM - Do what he did in Summer league and demand Q give him minutes by his play. I dont know if a rookie can have a break out year but I would love to see him in the discussion for ROTY.

Burks - STAY HEALTHY and he could be the biggest wild card on the Jazz team this year. If he plays with in Q's system and plays to his potential he could be the top scorer for the Jazz this year.

Ingles - I dont know if he can every have a break out year as he is more of a slow improvement kind of player but I would love to see a dribble drive added to his game. Maybe 50% from 3 would be a break out?

JJ - A return to his all star stats? I just want to see him stay on the court

Favors - Health and stretching his jumper and Favs becomes one of the best players on the Jazz roster. He would need to prove he and Gobert can exist on the floor at the same time.

Gobert - Become a go to scorer down low. Get a nice jump hook or even a sky hook to his arsenal would make him unstoppable. A little jumper maybe?
