Basically the U.S. is refusing to grant China the 12 mile exclusive zone around China's man made islands. They just sailed a guided missile destroyer within those 12 miles and China tracked them.
China wants the South (and East) China sea to be completely theirs and the U.S. is giving them the bird.
China signed the UN Convention on Law of the Sea (UNCLOS). That agreement states that manmade islands do not impose 12-mile territorial boundaries on surrounding waters. China is now violating that convention by claiming 12-mile territorial waters around manmade islands. If the Chinese choose to commit an act of war to back up that violation, the rest of UNCLOS protections will be suspended, and China will be subject to trade embargoes and naval blockade.
The new Trans-Pacific Partnership trade agreement will pass swiftly, and China will continue down the path of confrontation, rather than pursuing a path of cooperation. This was the choice of the CCP back in 1986, to dominate trade in the Asia-Pacific region and to gradually expand territory to cut off and surround Taiwan with trade barriers and territorial claims on all sides. Ultimate objective here: Force Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau to capitulate to Chinese rule. It is not going to work, though.
Chinese economy is going to crash first, and the CCP is going to be forced to crack down on the Chinese populace. They will either reform away from communist rule, or they will fight a bloody civil war first, and then reform. Taiwan will still be a free nation after all that happens.
Yup, I knew all this but only gave an extreme cliff notes version of what is happening. not why.

Thanks for the info, despite the snarky post.
