Welcome to Colton's Mock Draft Compilation, v. 11.0. Here are who the mock drafts are listing as the "best players". See below for details. It should give a pretty good idea of who will be available when the Jazz pick.

Ranking details: I used the following mock drafts as "voters" for the best players. That is, I assumed they ranked the players in the order that they felt like the players deserved to be drafted. (This is an incorrect assumption, because some mock drafts account for perceived team need, but it should be close.) Then I used the "instant run-off voting" algorithm in a program I wrote to deduce who deserved to be ranked in the top spot, then in the second spot, then in the third spot, and so forth. See here for details on that algorithm: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Instant-runoff_voting

Changes from v 10.0: I added a bunch of new mock drafts (~7 or 8). In total there are FOURTEEN mock drafts which are new and/or have been updated since the last version of my compilation.

I am really not a fan of Jan. A long athletic wing who cannot shoot just isn't very successful in the NBA anymore. It's all about loading up your team with shooters and bombing away from deep.

Changes from v 10.0: I added a bunch of new mock drafts (~7 or 8). In total there are FOURTEEN mock drafts which are new and/or have been updated since the last version of my compilation.

Fredette keeps slipping and slipping on the board. :)

Note: I just edited the original post, to give *all previous rankings*, instead of just the most recent previous ranking. I think I'll continue to include that info from now on.

3 Brandon Knight (6-6-6-6-6-4-3-4-3-3)

I mentioned this in an earlier post, but here's the evidence. The change from 6 to 4 (and now 3) happened the day the Jazz got the #3 pick. So apparently a whole bunch of mock drafts simply think the Jazz will take the player they WOULD have taken at #6, at #3 instead. I don't get it.

Ah...I thought the smilie was to indicate that you were happy with the so-called "slip".

I'm starting to lean toward Kanter as my preference over Knight. As much as I like both of them, the Millsap/Jefferson combo just isn't going to work defensively in the long run. Their pick-and-roll D is pretty horrendous. It opens up more options at the #12 pick too...

The NBA combine bumped several of the US players, I wonder which of the Euros will jump up the rankings next week....

Donatas would probably be my pick. Perhaps Noriega. Jonas V may not attend and Vesely might still be playing in the Serbian finals.

Utah takes Kanter. Cleveland takes Knight. Then they swap picks and Utah gets an additional 2nd round pick from the Cavs, maybe their 54th pick this year. There are a couple makeable guys in that 50 range and Utah always has a late 2nd-rounder scouted that no one else does, like Jeremy Evans.

So if Cleveland takes Knight @ 4th, in addition to Irving @ 1st? And they already have Baron Davis and Ramon Session at PG don't they?
Bigs are worth more than a not quite ready PG + a second round draft pick in the 50s.

Jazz can get a better deal for one of their bigs than this.

This trade idea is assuming that Utah wants Knight more than Kanter. By doing this they get the player they really wanted all along and another player, plus save over a million dollars between the guaranteed rookie contracts of the 3 and 4 picks. If they don't really want Knight, then this trade doesn't work.

So if Cleveland takes Knight @ 4th, in addition to Irving @ 1st? And they already have Baron Davis and Ramon Session at PG don't they?

Hence why Utah would be drafting Kanter for Cleveland and Cleveland takes Knight for Utah. Also, look for Sessions or Davis to be traded, maybe to the Lakers.

I understand. Sounds fine. I haven't wanted to use the 3rd or 4th pick on Knight - but that's just me. If Jazz are high on Knight then your scenario would make some sense.
