I had a funny story from work that I thought I'd share.
The company I work for has been doing quite well, so they decided to invest 100m or so in new clean room. Once the construction was completed, one of the managers dealt with the work stations setup and personnel assignment. For some reason, that manager (let's call him manager A), decided to raise the height of the work station so that only those over 6' can use them comfortably. That left the shorter people sitting on top of a tower with their feet dangling in the air.
They, obviously, complained. Another manager approached manager A and requested the work station be lowered for those who were too short for the current setup. Manager A threw a fit about how we can't have work stations at different heights, and about how difficult it would be to adjust them if the employees using them changed (literally a 1-man job that takes 2 minutes). One thing led to another, and the argument evolved into a screaming match. I honestly thought/hoped they'd come to blows.
Manager A was eventually overridden by a higher up. So out of spite, he lowered ALL the work stations to their lowest possible point. They were so low, that I'd go home with sore legs from squatting all day (in fact, my legs didn't even fit under the desks, and I had to sit in front of them).
An avalanche of complaints followed, and more people were dragged into the debacle. The atmosphere became so toxic that one employee quit. A couple of days later, they called an all hands meeting for the employees in the production department, and they gave a talk about the importance of getting along blah blah.
The work stations are now adjusted depending on who's currently using them, which the way it should have been from the start!
/facepalm
