Dante Exum, Patty Mills Injury, and Australia Basketball

It is my understanding that Dante plans to play for the Australia team for the world cup after the Summer League.

I don't know much about their team, but Patty Mills will not be playing due to shoulder injury. (Link)

Anyone know how Exum fits on the team? I imagine this will only help Exum as far as playing time goes.

Yes but hopefully he doesn't get burnt out, between summer league, FIBA and then the Nba season..... at 19 years old that is pretty crazy.

No, he really could use a ramping up. There's still time between all these things, he can still rest and do his personal practice. The NBA is brutal, he needs to be as ready as he can be considering that he hasn't played in about a year. Kanter should maybe take some note about it. Or at least be a man about it.

I like Kanter. I think he can be good, just... don't know where his ****ing head is at. It's weird to remember how old (or young, rather) these people really are, BTW.

I'm less concerned with the role he plays for Australia, I just think he needs to be playing and he'd either have gotten deeper with Australia having Mills, or he'll get a bigger role on an almost assuredly lesser team. They each have their particular pros and cons as possible outcomes, but it's whatever in the bigger picture of a young kid that is about to be put through a gauntlet, the likes of which they've never seen? Be prepared.

Real basketball matters.

I think he needs some competitive basketball experience. Mills injury will give him a lot of them for sure. he can learn a lot from it. I hope Austrailia plays well and plays US.

As an aussie, I am very confident Dante will get a heap of time - he will be starting for sure.

The boomers are very week at the SG position - I would expect dante and delladova will share the backcourt duties and there is sweet nothings behind those two.

It is a pity Mills and Bogut aren't playing as that would have at least put some quality players around dante and would open up the floor for him. They will all try there guts out, but we will be lacking the class all over the court to threaten the top four teams in the world.

By the way, you will also get to see a kid called Ben Simmons, who is another son of a USA bball player who plied their trade in Melbourne for decades. From nba draft.net:
"Grew up around basketball. Father, Dave Simmons, played in the NBL ... Has known countryman Dante Exum since he was 7 years old ... "

Imagine if were able to get them together on the jazz - oh man - Qantas would have to fly direct to salt lake!

I always hear this fear yet I never see players burned out. The foreign players seem to always have fire. Unless they're signed to max deals and their creepy wives own crappy stores at the gateway or they're 7 feet fall monster obsessed with doughnuts....

Dave Simmons I remember him Melbourne Tigers NBL
Dante will be fine gives him more opportunity with Mills out

Ben Simmons is the real deal, Hes one of the most polished underclassmen in HS I've ever seen. He doesn't have any obvious weakness to his game(check it out). I was going to talk about the Aussie NT, but Bozmansblues nailed it.

This sucks for Patty and his free agency... their saying 7 months recovery time..

The invasion has just begun, Thon Maker's an Australian too.

I noticed Andrew Bogut is on the roster and is not playing because of his injury. I had the same surgery as Mills about three years ago and the 7months recovery time sounds about right.

He is nineteen so that works to his advantage. Besides he hasn't played organized basketball in a long time. Every rookie hits the rookie wall so it doesn't really matter too much. He probably isn't going to be playing big minutes except in summer league.

So what class is this kid in for the draft? It would be hilarious if we got him with the 2017 GS pick. The kid is 16 so I am figuring 2-3 years before he thinks about coming to the NBA.

Simmonds will be playing for LSU this season, having a look around it looks like he is the no.1 ranked high school player in the states at the moment.
By all reports back here in Australia Exum is a much better player.

Others would be better than me at working it out - but I believe he is just starting his last year of High School now in the USA - and has committed to LSU for his one and done - so I think that takes him to 2016 draft?

After reading that SLC Dunk article talking about how much Exum has played the last few years, I have no issues with Exum over doing it in minutes. Furthermore, at age 19 he should be a bundle of energy.

Not to mention that, at least at the start of the season, he's probably going to be on limited minutes. I don't understand why him playing this summer would be an issue.

maker hasn't committed to the boomers yet, though the last report suggested he was close.
