DeMarcus Cousins is what we need

Cousins could be a total bust...BUT...DeMarcus Cousins could be the most dominate center in the league in a year or two. Which is why when you are in this position in the draft I think you absolutely have to take that risk because he could be the key to contending for a title along with Deron. Throw out all the negative things you have heard about DeMarcus and his attitude, and think about what he potentially could be in a system where the coach is well respected (Jerry Sloan is more often successful then he is not and I know there are those guy out there that will bang on me and say we need change in our head coach), and Coach Sloan has control of this team and leads this team, and this franchise has a good foundation with stand up guys such as Deron with his leadership.

Having said all that I know that there is still a good chance that he could ruin a franchise, but Cousins has a better chance of succeeding in a system that has a history of success and good leadership in place. So I think if we a trading up to the #5 spot we absolutely need to take a long look at DeMarcus Cousins, and with our success in the draft I will leave it up to the experts to make that choice because selecting him could make or break KOC's job but also not selecting him could do the same.

He is 6'11", 290 lbs, and an absolute beast down low, who dominated the college post game.

Thoughts?

Just food for thought, Gaines is changing his # from 15 to 2? Why? (I know Matthews and Koufos are changing their #'s also but I know we are not getting LeBron or Dirk, so no need to make smart comments)

As risky as picking Cousins would be, I would like to see the front office do this as well. With the sheer lack of strong big men in the league, I think that Cousins has the potential to dominate for years to come. He would also give us a potential second superstar. With D-Will's ability to break down defenses and Cousins inside game it could lead to some seriously exciting basketball. It could be like the old Kevin Johnson to Mark West days in Phoenix x 10. :)

I just don't see the Jazz making this pick. They are just too conservative to take a chance like this which is sad really because it has incredible potential and I feel is worth the risk. But it's not my money so I guess it is easy for me to feel this way.

I think it has more to do with the Jazz not being able to move up to get Cousins. I am a big fan of Cousins but I have some concerns about him. I think he is definitely a difference maker if he dedicates himself to the game. I read somewhere that he has already dropped his weight and his body fat so those are good signs. People forget that this guy is still a kid and I am sure that many of us didn't always act appropriately when we were nineteen. I see a little Karl Malone in this kid. I just think there is no way that Cousins gets pass Sacramento, GS, and Detroit so the Jazz will need to move up.

+1 for Cousins.

There are a couple of scenarios that could work, especially if Cousins drops to around 6. If the Jazz don't move up, hopefully it's because they really couldn't, not because they were again being their usual conservative selves.

**** it. I like big men who play with balls. And I like guys with an edge, like Rasheed and Artest. I'm not saying he's quite in their category but I'd rather have them than Mary Poppins Okur.

If we trade up, Cousins definitely needs to be our pick...assuming Favors and Hayward are off the board. I'm scared of Cousins, but he has the potential to be the best player out of this draft. He also has the potential to be the next Eddy Curry, but he is definitely worth taking a chance on.

Cousins needs to be the pick. There is not another available player that can be as big of a difference maker for us than him. Everyone else are good players but they don't put us over the top (Potentially).

I am a guy who hates potential players too. But its usually the guys who are slim athletic tweeners. Like Stromile Swift, Tyrus Thomas, Darius Miles. These are the guys that I can't stand. And that potential word scares me with guys who are athletic but don't have a NBA body or fundamentals.

Cousins is a different type of Potential. He has already proven to be a good rebounder, inside scorer, defensive presence down low. And he has a NBA body. He is also very good at running the pick and roll. I hate guys who are projects but Cousins isn't a project like Whiteside would be. Cousins can make an impact now giving him playing time even with Sloan. So he can still develop while helping us win games. That is the difference. I never want us using a draft pick on a project who isn't ready to play now. Because Sloan won't develop them. Sloan only knows how to make developed players into real NBA players. He is very good at it actually.
I see our options as this.
Draft Project and he won't help us for at least 3 years and he probably won't develop
Draft Cousins and get tons of potential but have a player help us win now at the same time.
Or draft a ROLE PLAYER with the 9th pick. And everyone who is available is a role player.

We should do whatever it takes to get him. If Millsap needs to get traded than lets get it done.

Cousins could be a bust if he has a bad work ethic. But that goes for everyone. I think he has the passion for the game. Eddy Curry does not. And Eddy Curry had no defensive skills or rebounding skills. Worst case scenario with Cousins is he averages 10 points 10 rebounds and 2 blocks if given the minutes.
And its not the stats that I worry about. Its the inside scoring and defensive presence. Even if he is a role player. Role playing defensive centers can win championships. Its one of the few positions that give teams a chance. Without it we have no luck especially since we will never get a superstar.

The only big that I would take over Cousins is Flavors. Not because Flavors is a better player but because he has the better work ethic. I would love to have Cousins but I can already hear Sloan at the start of the preseason saying "And some guys were just jackpotting around all summer and came to camp not ready to play." The Ostertag lines all over again.

Cousins is obviously talented as they come. It we be if he has the ability to push him self to the level of talent he has or if we well end up being a lazy could have been.

There is no way in hell I waste a lottery draft pick on a player like Gordon Hayward, please, he had a good run in this last March Madness tournament and before that no one else even knew about this kid, Gordon Hayward. Don't get me wrong he has got it figured out and getting on why the iron is hot, his name is so popular right now, but come on he played well against a bunch of soft Dukies.

1. Wrong.
2. I didn't realize softies won National Championships.

I still wouldn't want Hayward if we are picking in the top 10. I would rather take a chance on some one like Udoh.

Good post.

Yeah, you're annoying as ****. As if we needed another thread about Cousins and as if you're not late to the party. Why can't you just post your diatribe in another one of those threads, you just need your bloviated rant at the top?
