Deron Williams to Sacramento is being worked out, per Woj

Interesting, I think a change of scenery actually may help D-will even if it won't cure his injury woes.

Here's what I don't get.

A lot of the friction that caused the disagreements between Kings management and Mike Malone's coaching staff was a result of him wanting a backup PG and the Kings instead investing heavily in trying to chase Josh Smith

They ended up letting the perfect backup PG in Isaiah Thomas go for free, who was also an outstanding starting PG in his own right, fired Mike Malone, and are trying to trade for Deron Williams by wiping out their big man rotation and the PG they chose over Isaiah Thomas

All so they could have Tyrone Corbin be the head coach and fulfill Ranadive's fantasies about a 4 on 5 defense where 1 player is always right under the basket cherry picking.

The Jazz can completely neutralize that tactic by having Trey stay with the cherry picker. The Jazz lose very little defensively, but Trey can block the passing lane and eliminate that threat entirely.

It would be Trey's best defensive outing of his career.

Do you think Deron will get to be the cherry picker, or will he have to play defense?

If the Kings were real about this 4 on 5 strategy they would just get all defensive players and then one guy to catch the deep passes.

I haven't followed DWill's career since he left Utah, but he was a capable PG defender due to his size and tenacity. And I don't really know who's going to start for the Kings. Will Mclemore start? He would be a good choice to stand around half court waiting for the pass.

Deron managed to fire a coach before he got to the Kings. Amazing.

How will they ever play fast with Williams and Cousins?

Makes a lot of sense to me. Dwill and Cousins could be a deadly combo with Gay as a secondary palymaker.

D Will is averaging 16/7/3 on 53.3 TS% this year. Isaiah Thomas, who they couldn't get rid of fast enough, averaged 20/6/3 on 57.4 TS% last year. Now they want to trade his replacement along with their big man rotation for an inferior version of himself. It's straight-up baffling.

Dwill is an inferior version of Thomas?

No, Dwill going to be a beast with Cousins. The familiarity with Corbin should help too.

It's not 2011 anymore. Isaiah Thomas has played significantly better than Deron for the past two seasons now.

You could make an argument that Deron will play better in Sacramento's "system" than Isaiah Thomas would have, but given that Corbin is the coach and the owner has already proven that he places little to no value in stability, well... I have my doubts.

I hope d will does well with the Kings. I thought for a second there that the Jazz might trade for him, then I realized our gm has a brain that is not broken.

It's dumb how much stronger the West is getting through trades. We got Rondo, now we may get Dwill.

big name with no big game.

D.wills best days are behind him. He was created by Sloan's system and quickly fell into the pit of over-paid players. The Kings are crazy if they do this.

Trade talks have cooled:

The funniest part of the article was this:

Sacramento had recently initiated talks with the Nets, proposing a deal for Williams and second-year forward Mason Plumlee, who was actually the Kings' main target, sources said.

With Plumlee struggling and clashing a bit with new Nets coach Lionel Hollins over the first month of the season, the Kings were hoping he might be available. To compel the Nets into moving Plumlee, they considered taking on Williams, whose contract and history of injuries has scared off many clubs.

The Kings weren't even targeting Deron - they were just willing to take on his contract so they could get who they actually wanted.
