This. There was actually a time when it was fun to watch. That is now long gone. I think they should just amp up the other activities and not even play an all-star game. Add in more stuff like skills challenges and dunk contests and mini-team events. Or add in the home-court factor to the game, isn't it baseball that does this? Whichever team wins their conference gets home court during the finals.

I enjoy the all-star games. I dont want them to be more competitive. I do wish they would do more skill oriented stuff for fun.
I have no interest in watching my teams best player put himself at risk for a meaningless game and wear himself out mid season during a break.

For me in an ideal world, the All star game would mean something concrete for players or the teams so it would get to the most competitive height it can get.
People do not have to get injured for competitiveness in a single game. Risk also exists in a silly dunk attempt or even a single jump for a rebound.
I still turn around and watch those older games where players cared to beat each other out of competitiveness.
I agree risks are involved in lots of things but much more in a full competitive game. Just because risk is involved to some level doesnt mean it is the same amount of risk and doesnt mean they should take risks for no reason.
Injury risk is also not the whole reason to not play hard. This is also the break for players. They play a lot of games and need this break to recover and finish the season hard.
I get to see these players play competitively all year, I dont need one more meaningless game for them to play hard at.
I enjoy watching players goof off on the court and relax and have some fun in a game.

Fair enough. These guys deserve a break. It’s an exceedingly long and tiresome season. But that doesn’t make the game more interesting to me than how it could be.
Yeah, I understand that perspective. Some people want it to be a battle of the greatest NBA players all at once. I like to see something different but there is nothing wrong with wanting to see competitive hard basketball but that isnt going to happen, and I dont think it ever should for various reasons.

the all star game used to be fun in the 80s & 90s when they'd cruise for 3 quarters and then get serious for the last and actually put on a decent contest.
execute the losers that will put some heat into the game. I feel the same way about all those home renovation shows, the artificial drama of their timelines and all the other nonsense, you know if the home owner doesn't like his new french doors and crappy paint job the designer gets it in the neck, i'd actually watch that **** if that's how they rolled.
