ESPN blew up the Jazz.

How much change do you really think would have been made if Deron Williams hadn't been vilified? We have an incident where he argued with Sloan, then the rough stone rolling developed into other stories. He wanted Sloan out. He gave the FO an ultimatum. He wanted out of Utah. He was going to leave anyway like Melo.

None of which has EVER been proven NOR said or implied by Deron. Instead, the only things propelling these theories are this boards' ability to detect unhappiness in Deron's sparse interviews and our fans' own "he's gonna leave me!!" housewife syndrome.

It all started with J.A. Adande's theatrical piece that hit the front page of ESPN. The one everybody read to obtain their information. In it, he makes the above conjectures based off nothing:

One Jazz source told me, "Ninety-nine percent of the team loves Sloan. He didn't lose the team."

But that 1 percent won out.

That's it, that's all he had. Somehow Deron Williams was wedged into that quote. Ric Bucher comes bumbling along making up tales about how Sloan wanted to suspend Williams, how Deron forced Sloan out (yet the next day he blames Sloan instead). He was a mess. Yet, Bucher was also the second source for the public's information.

Lockedonsports David Locke Kevin O'Connor says that Ric Bucher Sports Center report that Sloan wanted to suspend Deron and got no support "that is a lie" tribjazz

Brian T. Smith Jazz's Sloan said that he had confrontation with Williams at halftime last night, but stressed it was no different than past ones. Lockedonsports

David Locke Kevin O'Connor says the report that Deron came to organization and wouldn't re-sign with Sloan as coach "is a falsehood, is a lie."

Summary? Most of you are slowly riding the dynamic wave of the media as they spin a story. It's certainly more exciting than the truth. Deron Williams had been made into a villain, deserving of hatred with Utah. And because there was no turning back, he was then traded.

Good logic. Kevin and Greg, busy playing Chutes and Ladders in the Jazz front office, here ESPN reports and decide to trade Deron because he is a trouble maker.

Bull ****. KOC told Sloan the Williams half-time temper tantrum was the last straw. He and Greg decided to trade him, break up the team, and rebuild. Sloan told him to eat **** and die with his loser *** silver spoon boss. That's how it all went down. Sloan is a consummate professional, so he didn't spill anything. That and he can't stand to make Gail cry.

How much more information do you think Deron gave out to the Jazz FO about his future with the team? Probably not more than we know. And obviously less than Bucher claimed to know. After all, why would Deron show the team his cards?

The fact of the matter is ESPN spun a web of lies to create a story, you can't deny that. You also can't deny that the public opinion of Williams changed dramatically fast after the muckraking, he was immediately wedged into a Carmello Anthony esque position. It's no coincidence that this trade was made right after the Melo trade. All indications lead to the Jazz reacting by fear.

The Jazz did well to trade Deron before the situation got worse (more losing), and before rumors could leak about D.Will wanting to play somewhere else or stipulating who he will or will not sign an extension with, which would undermine the Jazz's options.

The Jazz get Derrick Favors and two lotto picks given freely by a NJ franchise that was on the rebound after getting dumped by every superstar. NJ needed badly to save face, and the Jazz took advantage of it. It's a good move.

Bigs win championships. Ask Kobe. Ask the Spurs. Ask D.Wade. Ask Paul Pierce.

I think ESPN definitely played a role in the public discourse...the station that Jazz fans have railed against over the years is the one that was believe the most...stockholm syndrome.
