Gobert makes the team, Hayward edges out Klay Thompson for the last spot.

Excerpts:
"It's interesting that Jazz fans seem to have focused their campaigning on Gordon Hayward for an All-Star spot ahead of Gobert...But I wouldn't agree. Gobert fares better by most value stats -- he has an 8.2 WARP to Hayward's 6.2 and 6.5 RPM wins to Hayward's 4.6. And Utah has played better with just Gobert on the court (plus-6.1 points per 100 possessions) than just Hayward (minus-2.4)...He has been the best center in the league in my book and is a deserving All-Star."

"The last spot on my 12-man roster came down to Hayward vs. Klay Thompson, two players in very different roles...While Thompson has been content to feast on the shots set up by his three All-Star teammates this season...Hayward has carried an injury-riddled Jazz team...In that context, the fact that Hayward has actually been more efficient than Thompson is remarkable"

It's not really a prediction of who WILL get in, though, it's his opinion of who SHOULD get in.

Rudy shooting in game three pointers, aitlrballing free throws and Rihanna selfies..... great reasons to vote for gobert.

I'm not holding my breath for the bandwagoneers to disembark from their lofty perch's and see the truth.

The thing with comparing Klay and Gordon is that that both are perfect for their situation. If you put Hayward on the Warriors and Klay on the Jazz, I think both teams become worse. Hayward is nowhere near the elite shooter Klay is and Klay does not have the all around game that Hayward has that the Jazz rely on.

Gobert is sure making a case! The thing that gets lost are his screen assists. Hayward gets a lot of open looks because of Rudy. Gordon ain't going nowhere; he knows how lucky he is to be playing with Rudy and George. Sure wish Hill would sign an extension! Jazz would be a lot better off financially front loading a contract.

Marc Stein just wrote a similar article as Kevin Pelton and has Gobert and Hayward getting in as well.

To add quotes to my above post:

"Then there's Gobert, who has emerged as a candidate for the NBA's Defensive Player of the Year.

Gordon Hayward is the free agent-to-be who'll soon be in great demand, but Gobert just might be Utah's most influential player thanks to his offensive improvement. He's averaging 12.8 points, 12.8 rebounds and 2.5 blocks per game, which represent three benchmarks no Jazz man in team history has ever hit in the same season.

The only player in the league at present who can match (or exceed) Gobert in all three categories? Anthony Davis.

The same has to be said for Hayward, who appears poised for his maiden All-Star nod from West coaches as a reward for his offensive consistency in the face of Utah's numerous injuries. This is the sixth straight season that Hayward has increased his scoring average, nudging him to a level (22.1 PPG) that makes him the most prolific scorer seen in Salt Lake City since Karl Malone."

Stein was comparing the front court and Hayward/Thompson in these quotes. He has Gobert getting in as the last front-court player and Hayward as the second wild-card.

It would be amazing if we got two guys in.
