The federations involved, Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Montenegro, FYROM, Russia, Spain, Bosnia Herzegovina, Lithuania, Italy, Greece, Israel, Poland and Turkey are suspended from Eurobasket 2017 due to their support to Euroleague basketball.

This has been sent to the other federations mentioned in the league more or less.

Insider David Hein tweeted that it raises a possibility that USA can be suspended from the Olympics.

What in the world does that mean? And why is it wrong?

there's a big schism developing in euro basketball (with the emergence of the Basketball Champions League) akin to ABA and NBA last i heard. One of the euro posters should be able to describe it better than I.

It's pretty unclear right now but it looks like it is FIBA showing the finger on the trigger to European basketball to join their side instead of ULEB. According to their March 21st message, 16 Euroleague teams would be exceptions in an event of these banishings taking place. For example, Turkey is one of the homes to Eurobasket 17 and 2 Turkish teams are already in the Euroleague. But another Turkish team is in Eurocup finals. If they win they qualify to Euroleague and become exceptions which will lead to Turkey not breaking the rule practically.

If you ask me, it is just power struggle and manipulation and those bans will not actually happen. I mean who are you gonna form the tourney with?

One Romanian old timer basketball player tweeted joking "don't count us out yet for championship! Smh" it is what it is. A joke.

The thing is, ECA does not share or share a very little portion of the income with teams, while FIBA will go fifty fifty and share 30 mil euro broadcast income with the teams.

Here is the organizations wiki page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2016–17_Basketball_Champions_League

Euroleague has a licence system that aristocratically benefits the bigger teams with longer deals and more teams to appear, and this is where FIBA hits them. Meritocracy.

In March, 11 teams with A licence (highest) in Euroleague announced out of the FIBA Champions League, and it led to this.

But according to other sources, the money they offer are much lesser than what is rumored.

David Pick:
rs: €100k
top 16: €20k
elite 8: €40k
4th seed: €60k
3rd seed: €80k
finalist: €100k
champs: €340k
total: €4.42m

So if they cannot bent over the major teams, it is gonna become a joke or it will rise a bigger crisis.
