Following Potential 2025 Draftees

I would put the odds that Philly moves the pick (either for vet help or to slide back) at like 75%. Ace/Tre/VJ don't make a ton of sense with their win-now mode and some don't jive with the young players they would build around in a retool.

Here's are some scrambled thoughts on how prospects can become stars:

Tre Johnson
- Elite (like top 5 in league pullup jump shooter), improved ability to attack the rim and FT line (Booker level), improve to average defense.
- I think he can become an all star if one of these things goes well and the others go how he can expect.
- I think he can be a superstar if he gets two of these things to go right, but he might need all 3.
- Booker as all three, and that would be the model for a high end outcome
- I think all are unlikely to happen individually, but I think the pull up shooting is the most likely. His most realistic star outcome is like Murray/Herro. The other two I would consider very unlikely as there is really not much precedent for that happening.

Kon Kneuppel
- Needs to increase offensive output, which could come from either self created shots or increased playmaking
- Probably needs both to become an all star level player
- Not many avenues besides what is already listed to improve
- HS suggests he can, play without Flagg implies he might be able to, but not to a crazy degree
- Think if he increases his role he can be like Bane, but tbf there are not a lot of Desmond Banes walking around
- Hard to see him go beyond a Bane level

Kasparas Jakucionus
- Needs to do the same thing he did in college, but more.
- Big swing skill is 3 point shooting. Needs to be a volume three point shooter off the dribble.
- Athleticism will hold him back, so has to be very elite skill player to be an all star.
- Improving handle is probably as critical as becoming high level off the dribble shooter
- If he becomes a star, I think it will looks something like current Harden
- Don't think he can rise up to the Haliburon or younger Harden levels

Jeremiah Fears
- Also needs to do the same thing in college, but more efficiently
- Path to improvement is clear, physical development and shooting development
- Indicators for both are actually pretty good and realistic, very young + good FT shooting
- Many examples of physical development and shooting development, but also need to remember that large improvements here are unlikely
- Defense could also be path to improvement, but I don't have much hope there. Length is not great....but does have a good steal rate.
- Star outcome would need some level of shooting improvement and likely need playmaking improvement. If he makes major improvement in both could be superstar level.
- Finishing ability would also need to improve, but that could come from physical development

Also gets them off of Paul George which is crucial. If both him and Embiid break on long contracts they are in trouble.

My worry is what does he do with that elite size?

Not guard anyone, thats for sure. Get into the paint and finish? Nope.

So he's a long, one dimensional dude. I think hes a dude early on that puts up big numbers that wow's people, but eventually basketball people realize it doesnt do anything for winning. See other Trae, Young.
have you watched tre johnson? he was a good defender. definitely a plus defender for a freshman wing. as far as getting into the paint and finishing, again, spoken like somebody who hasn't watched much. maybe you have and if so, we're just seeing different things and that's fair. but it does make me wonder.

I have watched and I have the opposite impression as yourself.

Honestly, I feel like there are certain dudes on this board we dont hit with that, but ok.

Yes, I have watched him quite a bit. Including multiple full games this week.

Good lookin out though....

to be clear, i wasn't hitting you with that. i sincerely wondered because i saw something completely different - as i said, if you have watched and you still think he can't defend - we simply agree to disagree.
