Jazz have made Brantley and Forrest restricted free agents, signaling a level of interest in retaining them.

Morgan will be unrestricted, which leaves me to believe he isn't coming back.

Could we potentially see Brantley replace Niangs minutes?

Could Brantley see actual/meaningful playing time? I mean..................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................... maybe?

sup Quin?

Just so everyone is clear. We basically offered both another two-way contract with a 50K guarantee. That’s it.

Id rather have Morgan, but Quin has seemingly given up on that whole “player development” thing and refuses to play any of these young guys, so I’m not sure it matters.

Brantley cant get another 2-way from the Jazz. I believe you can only be on a 2-way for two years on a single team. I could be wrong as the 2-way contract rules seem to change every year.

None of these dudes is ever going to be an NBA player. I’m fine with Forrest coming back on a two way, but I’d definitely nab a new developmental guy for Brantley’s spot.

If Brantley was offered something besides a two-way (which I guess would have to be the case if it is true he can’t get another two-way deal), that’s a major headscratcher for me. The guy has done nothing to earn a contract.

Multiple guys have said this so it probably is true. Problem is I can’t find it on the internet anywhere. I wonder what the qualifying offer is for Brantley then and what determines how much it is.

Two way info is hard to find. I don’t believe you can keep the guy restricted for more than one year in a two way… so since we did it last year I don’t think we can do it again. I don’t have time to deep dive it but I think Jordan McLaughlin in Minnesota may have some articles where it mentions this.

According to the FAQ:

When a Two-Way player becomes a free agent, his free agent amount (see question number 37) is the one year veteran minimum salary. A player finishing a Two-Way contracts is subject to restricted free agency (see question number 44) if he was on an NBA Active List or Inactive List for at least 15 days in the previous season. As with any other restricted free agent, the team must make a qualifying offer in order to retain its right of first refusal. The qualifying offer for a Two-Way player must be:

  • If the player played two or three years on Two-Way contracts with the same team, the qualifying offer is a standard NBA contract at the minimum salary, with no bonuses of any kind, and with the Two-Way salary guaranteed. This also applies if the player is no longer eligible to sign a Two-Way contract.
  • For all other Two-Way players, the qualifying offer is a Two-Way contract, with $50,000 guaranteed.

This implies that it is possible to be a two-way player with the same team for 3 years, BUT if you have played 2-3 years on a two way your QO is automatically the minimum salary. To get 3 years you would have to not get the QO extended, then sign a two-way afterwards.

Congrats Jarrell, you're a real NBA player! Forrest, still a two-way guy unless he can land a real offer.

Isn't extending the offer how teams keep their ability to match an offer which means the team is still interested at the right price. I like Forrest but the PG spot is kind of crowded now with the drafting of Butler. I wouldn't be surprised if Teague earn a 2 way. I liked Brantley and if he can earn a spot and take Niang's minutes that would be nice. However if the Jazz sign someone like Batum or Craig then there is no point having him on the roster.

How is it crowded? Jazz went from 1 PG to 2 PG's. Forrest makes 3.

That's pretty standard. Jazz had Ingles last year to act as PG 2 with Forrest being PG 3, but Ingles might be out after this year.

1. They’re cheap.
2. These guys will fill the bottom of the roster and someone has to do it.

I’m not sure either are going to crack a rotation. Brantley does a lot of things okay, but nothing elite. Forrest is much the same.

Just be glad we didn’t spend high draft capital on them.

So Forrest is getting another two-way with 50K guaranteed and Brantley is getting a minimum contract unless he declines for some reason.
