Well using this logic, I won't be paying my taxes.
If you don't feel the laws you're abiding by makes sense then maybe you should stop paying your taxes. See if the government will change the laws for you. I doubt it though.

A anyone who thought United wouldn't "announce" changes is nutty. Realistically there won't be much of a change since it was already established the gate personnel ****ed up. The overwhelming VAST majority of the time they keep the people from even boarding that are on the list to get bumped in the first place. The gate personnel screwed up by trying to bump after boarding the plane. The "policy" isn't really changing, united announces a "change" for PR purposes, since it was highly likely their policy all along, and the gate personnel in question get written up for it.

I've heard about the wedding couple incident. Since there isn't video and since they weren't hurt and since they were really in the wrong, no one is making a big deal. If someone is sleeping in your seat, they deserve to be disturbed. Once the couple was aware that they couldn't sit where they were sitting, that should have been a pretty obvious move. I wondered if they were emboldened by the doctor incident and felt entitled to whatever they wanted.speaking of...
a couple of things here - one, I have seen/read a couple different accounts how this particular passenger (the doctor) had accepted an offer for a later flight but then somehow boarded the plane anyhow, once he found out the next flight wasn't until the next day - - but I have not seen any official mention of this. Anybody have an "official" link or source that this is in fact what did happen?
also, it's been widely reported the past day or two about a Utah (of all things!!!) couple that was kicked off a United flight on their way to their wedding in Costa Rica because they refused to sit in their assigned seats and United wouldn't let them upgrade to some business class seats that seemed to be open. Apparently there was a large person asleep in the row where they had assigned seats, and they didn't want to disturb that passenger so they took other seats a few rows back. When they were asked to take their assigned seats, I guess they were pretty argumentative with the airline personnel and they were escorted off the plane. But nobody has posted any video so nothing's gone viral like it did with the other incident. You folks hearing anything about this?

This was debunked multiple times. I posted an article earlier in this thread that showed as much. He refused to get off the plane when asked by gate personnel. They then handled it COMPLETELY wrong and forced him off. The guy was also being pretty stupid as he could have been charged with terroristic acts for refusing a request by airport security to leave the plane. As I said much earlier in this thread, stupidity all around.
I read that there is more to this story than was initially reported. Apparently the couple tried to move ahead into preferred seating during boarding when they thought there were open seats there. It turned out there was no vagrant sleeping in their seats, it was just a convenient excuse. The airline personnel asked them to sit in their own seat until boarding had ended, at which point I know from lots of personal experience they could have probably moved forward to any better seating they wanted besides first class as first class gets more than just a bigger seat. They refused and raised a stink since they thought the plane had lots of empty seats anyway. It got far enough out of hand than an air marshal stepped in. An air marshal will NEVER reveal himself if he did not feel it was warranted, they are not part of the flight crew and do not get involved unless they feel the safety of the flight is in question. For an air marshal to get involved the couple had to be acting up way more than just bitching about not getting a better seat than they paid for. This is more sensationalized reporting as click-bait after the other fiasco. This one just happened to be United, it could have been any airline.
The clincher for me that there is far more to the story than anyone chooses to report is the actions of the air marshal. They are generally VERY well-trained and VERY well-prepared to handle issues that may put the flight at risk. The likelihood of him just going off for no reason is so small as to render the thought of it ludicrous.
