Go get Baynes

this wasn’t a realistic proposition a month ago, but Phoenix is sliding down the standings, and they can’t like their chances of making the playoffs very much at this point. The development of Ayton is a priority over playing Baynes (an expiring contract), obviously.

And obviously nobody is going to offer a first for Baynes.

So, here we are. We offer Ed Davis and two second-round picks. Ed battles Kaminsky for minutes at backup C.

This makes too much sense at this point, so it probably won’t happen. But it should. Phoenix doesn’t get a better offer, imo.

You could play him at the 4 when teams like LA go big. Ed makes $1M less so throw someone else in the deal and the. Have a roster spot for a player (someone who’s not in the G League).

Baynes is a mother effer. I don’t see them moving him even with Ayton back. Would love to swap Ed for Aron.

This is the biggest minor acquisition (which is also realistic) that I can see. It would legit reignite my passion for this season (which was admittedly way to homeristically ignited at the beginning). Our bench would be stabilized. We’d have several new combinations and weapons. I think something more than the sum of its parts would emerge.

Getting a pick-n-pop partner for Conley should be a major concern, imo.

We give them seconds, Bradley, and the Gasol Stopper, Ante Tomic. Throw in NWG if we can.

We’d roll into the off-season with bird rights to Baynes and Clarkson, plus MLE and BAE.
You don’t have to sell me on the deal... I’m all in but they wouldn’t do it... James Jones doesn’t strike me as an amazing GM so you never know, but he’s likely to value short term winning over stock piling draft picks... only way I see them selling him off for seconds is if the coach is playing Baynes over Ayton and they don’t want that narrative.

They think Baynes stays in Phoenix after this season?

IDK... everyone is on the perpetual hot seat in Phoenix and I could see them valuing short term winning. Sadly they are very much in the thick of the “jog for 8th”... maybe it’s a power walk, but it definitely isn’t a race.

I think if they did move Baynes they’d want a player and I’m not sure Ed or Tony qualify... Sarver loves money so maybe we can save him some dough and throw some cash in the deal to appeal to him. I could see Baynes getting like 4 seconds like Niko did last year... he has an easy number to match.

I was going to say that I would throw an extra 2nd in there to get it done. But 4 seems super extravagant.

We sell them for cash. It’s like Monopoly money to us.
