There is a log jam at the guard position in Memphis and they are upset with OJ Mayo on and off the court. Sam Young and Xavier Henry are replacing Mayo easily.
Hawks want to move Hortford to the PF position but they don't have anything resembling a Center on that team (Jason Collins doesn't count).

The Grizzlies originally signed Josh Smith to the contract that the Hawks matched. The Grizzlies also didn't sign Zach Randolph to a extension yet either. And it seems that they don't see him in the long term plans according to rumors.
The Grizzlies are rumored to be looking to trade Zach Randolph to the Magic (Jason Richardson and other players seem to be the only likely option). but that is just a rumor and after the trade the Grizzlies would would need to move Randolph for somebody.
Zach Randolph would need to be traded first so he doesn't lose value. He would lose value if they received Josh Smith before.
Josh Smith would probably demand more value than just Mayo and Thabeet. But the pieces would fit for Atlanta.
