I'll respect you enough to not bury the lede: As far as I can tell, this is not big deal. People are getting flu-like symptoms, and it is killing old/sick people like the flu does every year, but it seems to be mostly about the press getting clicks or the governments showing they can protect people in hopes all will forget the failures of their reaction to COVID. HMPV has been detected in the United States, but it isn't new. It has been in the US for over 20 years. It causes cold/flu symptoms, with cases spiking typically in late winter or early spring.
