I am assuming we retain Hayward and Hill (and even Ingles). That's a lot of assumptions I know, but just go with it. If we lose one or both of Hayward and Hill this conversation is pointless. I think we trade AB this offseason so his salary is gone. I don't think Favs is on the books either, but not sure if we move him this offseason or just don't re-sign him.
So in this scenario we likely only are able to retain one of Exum and Hood next offseason. It would behoove us to make a decision this year and move one of them... so who ya trading?
Hood is more productive but I think his trade value is much higher than Exum's. I also see Exum's ceiling as higher, so I think he'd be the smarter hold candidate. I also don't see Exum as a PG and would have no problem playing him next to Hill and I do worry long term about Hood's injury issues.
I wouldn't force a trade and I'd definitely wait until Hayward and Hill are retained. I'd have to get a good return, but I just don't see Hood as untouchable. Example trade would be Hood to Philly for Covington, Holmes (who are redundant with their current roster, but are cost effective contributors) plus some decent draft asset in 2018 or 2019.
Note: This has zero to do with Hood's comments... Didn't think they were inappropriate at all. He's a starter in the NBA. Had been holding onto this though all during playoffs, but wanted to hold off throwing it out there until we were in offseason mode.
