just from reading on different other site...it look's like the utah jazz front office will just stay as is and not make any changes to improve the team, and with the team not having any major trade bait might as well just stay as is for the rest of the season.

In other words they are doing what they have always done. No shocker there.

To be fair what can they do? Unless they could get a legit shooting guard for AK I don't see a trade that really benefits the jazz. It sucks, but they may be doing whats best for the team by being patient and letting AK's contract expire.

The organization will need to do something, but the looming lockout makes adding additional salary at the expense of an immense expiring contract kind of foolish.

I think the question is simply; Is paying for AK this year worth a little goodwill in the future? Because if not, I really don't see a way they won't get rid of that contract. They aren't going to pay for an underperforming team. I have at least faith in that. They'll do something.

It is funny how other teams can make deals but the Jazz seem to have a problem doing it.

I thought KOC said a few years ago he wanted to see the team stay together to see what they could accomplish but after those few years he just let guys walk away without getting much in return.

I remember him saying the Jazz were building assets that could be used in trades if they felt the team wasn't progressing. Except for the AJ deal which was done in desperation to make up for letting Boozer leave, the Jazz have gotten zilch for their assets except a first round pick in the Brewer trade.

The Jazz lost Matthews, Brewer, Boozer, Koufos, Maynor and Korver and 2 1st round draft picks for cap space, AJ and one mid level 1st round pick (which they included in the AJ deal). Now there is a good possibility that AK 's contract simply expires and the Jazz get luxury tax relief and nothing else.

Once the Jazz made the decision to extend Okur either AK or Boozer became expendable. Why not try to move Boozer or even AK before the league knows you are dumping salary or not re-signing Boozer?

I don't know why I keep getting my hopes up that the Jazz are going to do something to improve our bench. I guess Elson, Price, and Fess will have to step up their games. LOL.

I cannot believe that the Jazz are incapable of making a deal. I am not expecting a blockbuster trade but getting a player or two who could actually help our bench score would be nice.

Marcus Thorton
Terrence Williams
Carl Landry
Troy Murphy

Are players who have proven they can score and rebound. Now I know Terrence Williams is a bit of a head case but he is a high risk high reward type of player. Thorton is instant offense off the bench. Not a great defender but a guy who can score. Landry is a work horse and a FA. Murphy is expiring and could fill the role that Okur fulfiiled. He is a really good 3 pt shooter and a good rebounder. I think getting a Williams and Murphy would not be too hard to do.

Before I get crucified, I not saying getting two of these players would make us contenders but it the Jazz were able to get additional help off the bench they would be a different team and cause some teams problems in the playoffs.

Said it before will say it again - Murphy for Kirilenko. The salary differences will be enough to get Utah under the cap I think and Nets get their guy.

Edit: Doh! Murphy just got sent to GS. Utah will have a harder time now trading AK

If they don't make a move I hope those that live in Utah show that you will not stand for this crap they gave the fans and refuse to go to games. This team is a joke and if they stand pat I'm going to be pissed. Not even a rumor exists. Lame.

just wondering, I know there's a deadline for signing folks to ten day contracts, not sure what it is though - - it'd be nice if that might be a possibility, esp. if some of these injuries persist

I don't recall, were Gaines & Jeffers originally brought up from the D-league on 10 days?

There's really no trade out there that will make the Jazz better in the short term and long that would be financially sound with the uncertainty of next year coming. Be full of piss and vinegar all you want, but making a trade now may not be in the team's best interest.

Too be honest, I was hoping I could be the first guy to bitch about how all the other teams are doing stuff and we never do stuff. ****ing KOC. We could have traded Deron for all of the Knick's overrated crap, but NOooooooooo. God I hate being a Jazz fan.

Thank God it's not too late. We can still trade for the Nets package, which would be awesome. I'm looking forward to 2019. That's our year.

i say d-will is gonna play for the lakers or new york now d-will bitch is playing there lol....sorry utah this team is drowning real fast.

You're an optimist if you don't think the front office is working on a salary dump to get us under the luxury tax level. I expect them to trade a package of Memo, Hayward, and cash for a second-round pick.

January 10. Yes, we could have called someone up anytime in the past month, but 10-day contracts still cost Greg Miller money.

it's hard for 29yrs as a fan of this team i had more hope when larry h miller was still alive and living. so mantis don't even go there and give your line of bs on me. at least during the time larry h miller was living...at least he got the players needed to surround karl malone and john stockton and the players they got play with more heart than this team....only thing that stop us was the greatness #23 MJ. that is all im saying.

Not a very adventurous trade deadline for the Jazz, but like most of Utah, they've gotten even more conservative (when that didn't even seem possible). I think they'll keep AK and re-sign him in the summer for much less. That's not a terrible thing, given the NBA economy as well as the real world economy, from the front office POV. AK contributes, but not near All-Star level which is how he is paid. They'll probably develop the young turks a little more, but I'm guessing we'll be seeing the same team next year plus or minus one mid-level guy and a second rounder we all get overly excited about.

Here's the problem with AK in my estimation. If he walks, we lose someone who contributes more than most of us, myself included, recognize. Who in the heck will we get to replace all that? But if we re-sign him for too much which for me considering his injury history, inability to stretch the floor, inconsistency, and the current economic climate of the league, is anything over 6.5M per year, we screw ourselves going forward in ever being able to sign a true semi-marquee free agent. If we do re-sign him but on the cheap, and let's just say very cheap (3 years, 12M) for argument's sake, he's still here. He's still on the roster. He's still starting. It's the same old, same old, and even if someone like Hayward does supplant him at some point, that means we likely have salty AK coming off the bench. I guess my point is, his looming free agency is a touchy situation, and other than not re-signing him for too much, I don't know what else to think.

Perhaps the sensitivity of the issue is a microcosm of AK himself and is an indicator that we should just steer clear and rid ourselves of the headache that is AK.

Jan. 10 is the EARLIEST date that 10 day contracts can be signed - I was wondering about a final deadline. Guess I could look it up or something.
