What's new

If there was a Sophomore of the Year would Favors have a chance at it?

John Wall 17.1/7.9/4.8 averaging 37 Minutes
Greg Monroe 16/9.8 averaging 32 Minutes
Gordon Hayward 10.2/3.3/3.1 averaging 28 Minutes
DeMarcus Cousins 17.4/11.1 averaging 30 Minutes
Paul George 12.1/5.3/2.2 averaging 30 Minutes

Derek Favors 8.7/5.9 while averaging 20 Minutes a game

Now obviously he wouldn't win while comparing these numbers but, if he was getting as many minutes as John Wall (almost double) would he be a strong candidate?

Discuss.

Cousins would win hands down...not claiming he is the shinniest penny in the fountain in the smarts department though.

Gotta take of the Jazz colored glasses for a minute and realize that though he has obvious talent and abilities, he is far from a complete player. He has a lot to learn about positioning and basic pro basketball fundamentals. Now if he learns this he'll be a perrinial all star, but for now he's a great backup with potential.

If you project the numbers out based on 30 mpg, no. But I think his current numbers aren't indicative of what he'd do in more minutes, what he's shown us at times with more minutes, and what he's shown us over the last couple weeks. I think it's within reason to think that in 32 minutes a night, he could get 17.5/11. Even now. His rebounding and hustle has been very impressive recently as has his confidence and execution (seemingly--I don't the exact numbers here) with his mid-range game, ya know, that 15 footer. Add in the fact that he's gotten much, much better in just one year with fouling and that he's shown a nice collection of offensive moves that he seems more comfortable with, game to game, and I'm permanently sold. I honestly think that in two years, he could, COULD, be scary good. Like 25/12 scary good. Sort of Tim Duncan meets Dwight Howard. With all due respect to those players of course. We have a gem here.

I feel like our coaching staff not giving Favors an absurd amount of minutes right off of the bat might be better for everyone 5 years down the road. Just a hunch of mine.

I do not think he will have a chance at it. Over the last few weeks Favors, and others of The Four, are starting to really step up.

These analysts only think the NBA is made of 5 teams: Lakers, Clippers, Boston, New York, and Miami
With that being said, it would be Blake Griffin.

I would say Paul George, Monroe, or Hayward deserve it more than Favors though. Cousins just does too many stupid things to be a serious candidate on my book.

Even if Favors got the minutes, he wouldn't be putting up Griffin's numbers. But once he gets starter's minutes, he'll be a serious candidate for Most Improved Player.
