Some of our problems are out of our control, schedule, travel, etc... but some of the stuff is self inflicted. Jae Crowder not starting is a self inflicted wound that is hurting us. Jae is not a bench iso scorer like Lou Will. He's a solid role player in a position of need. He plays better with other guys he can play off of. He's better as the weaker link of a stronger unit than a stronger link in a weaker unit. Not really a creator... a finisher.

His career numbers as a starter show he is quite a bit better as a starter than he is off the bench. Was better as a starter with Cleveland than he was off the bench too.

This year in a small 5 game sample (we are 4-1 when he starts btw). His 3 point shooting is similar but his overall FG% and TS% go up quite a bit... TS off the bench .538 vs. .571 as a starter. Also the +/- changes for him overall and the starter quite a bit. He's had a positive plus-minus in every start. The net rating with Crowder with the starters is twice what it is with Favs with the starters.

Favs has done quite well off the bench too... so it isn't like you lose him. Even removing the Houston game he's been really productive off the bench.

So can we just effing do it already... we can't keep shooting ourselves in the foot.

Too obvious. They don’t pay big bucks to people for easy solutions. You need nuance.

Jae Crowder's hand pads and balance beam routine help the Jazz's starting unit play with force, purpose, and juice. He leads the league in near intimidations and almost deflections which have been shown to improve heart health and true high pass scoring opportunity percentage plus minus... or THPSOPPM as we experts call it.

I think it's been mentioned here plenty of times already but it's worth mentioning again. Jazz simply don't have enough bodies to play PF that starting Crowder would fix, as you're still going to end up with Favors/Gobert lineups at some stage. If they can plug that hole (ironically Jerebko would be nice) that allows Crowder to play his starters minutes at PF while being able to avoid Favors/Gobert lineups then I think Quin would have already made the move weeks ago.

edit: he's kind of trusting Thabo at that backup PF role in some matchups

Thabo as you mentioned is the answer there, but honestly... Royce could play there... and you might end up with Favs/Rudy lineups during the middle of the game that are more effective... just without Ricky (add in a Neto or other shooters).

I just think we need to push to keep the Rudy/Favs/Ricky trio to very limited court time. Having Ricky with Favs on the second unit (I'm still starting Ricky, but maybe change the sub patterns) might allow them to create via pick and roll... I just think it's obvious the change would benefit us and I'm not sure why we are still dicking around on this.

I think setting the tone defensively is important and Favors does that better.

I think scoring more points than the other team is more important... in fact I think it’s maybe the most important thing in basketball... the starters with Jae are much better at that than the starters with Favs.

Yes, and defense is an important part of scoring more points than the other team.

Well duh. Most of us have known this for a long long time.

But if there starters with jae score 15 more points per game than the starters with favors do and also allow more points per game but only 6 more, then it would be better to have jae with the starters. Cause math and stuff.

Another way to put it: the offense might be much better with jae and the defense only a little worse. For a net positive.

Defense is an important part of scoring more points than the other team. This is true. Offense is an important part too. That is also true. What teams should try to do is not go all defense or all offense but instead try to put the lineup out there that is best at both all around.

I think most jazz fanz believe that to be with jae starting.

It’s not hard to comprehend.

Thabo was a -11 tonight in eight minutes. Missed all 4 fg attempts. That's terrible. He makes two of those Utah wins.

Name 5 worse starting 4's in the entire league than Favors. It's tough.

Im just gonna say what the rest of you are afraid to say...

Jae isnt that good, but we all know we are stuck with him because he loves UTAH, and the organization is just happy to have somebody that wants to be here. So... let him just keep keep jacking shots even though he isnt a shooter?? Are the coaches afraid of Jae as well?
