Is this is a coincidence or nothing?

Mike Elliot was one of the most celebrated trainers in teh NBA before being fired due to the drama surrounding Mitchell sitting in the Memphis series.

Ultimately Mike Elliot was proven right, and the Jazz should have rested Mitchell more in the Memphis series.

Now we have fired Elliot, and guys who have barely ever been injured are going down with overuse injuries.

Elliott left after the playoffs. He wasn't fired.

Bojan and Conley were both hurt for the Denver series in 2020. Mike and Don were both hurt in the 2021 playoffs. Favors was always nursing something. The guy wasn't some sort of magician.

Insinuating that Joe's injury was caused by the loss of a trainer is simply idiotic anyway.

We are getting injuries because we are old.

Its not idiotic. It's a fair question. To act otherwise is being ridiculous.

Do trainers have an impact on player health? Yes or No?

Clearly the answer is yes. If the Jazz hired me to train and condition NBA players, they would likely all experience more injuries than they usually do.

Bogey's injuries are all weird. They are just finger/wrist injuries. I dont attribute those to trainers. A trainer, to my knowledge, can't prevent a guy's finger from being broken.

Overuse injuries are training related though (and you could say training related x load management related, which could be a trainer/coach/player issue). A torn ACL is training related. A calf injury to a guy who never gets injured is training related.

A concussion is not training related.

So you're saying Bojan's injury is "weird" but the old trainer could have avoided Joe Ingles' leg buckling last night.

Whatever fits your narrative Cy....

Oh, and the "overuse" argument is null and void. He's playing a full 6 minutes less this year than he did the last time he played 80+ games. He's playing 3 minutes less this year than he was last year. So really, he has less wear and tear on his legs this year than any year since 2017.

**** happens. Quit trying to blame somebody.

That just points to the training staff being the issue more...

And not sure I have blamed anyone in this thread. Just stating facts and asking if they amount to anything. I see you got your head in the sand though.

Mike Elliott left because his decision to sit Donovan Mitchell Game 1 of the 2021 playoffs was a shock to everyone. There was a lack of communication. Not only did it piss off Donovan Mitchell, but I'm sure it pissed off other players and members of the coaching staff.

I'm not here to tell anybody who the better personal trainer is (because none of us know), but the lack of communication there is probably the reason why he "left".

He probably left because why would any professional worth a damn stay in a job where he doesnt have control over his craft?

He told Mitchell his ankle needed more time and the Jazz/Mitchell ignored him. Maybe if they listened, Mitchell rest a few more games, the Jazz win the Memphis series, and go into the Clippers series with a fully healthy Mitchell and get to the next round.

The team’s also older than it’s ever been and Gobert and Joe have taken 0 time off for several years. Also, Mike Conley’s been much healthier.

Sorry to break it to whoever wants to find a scapegoat, but sometimes **** just happens. I also think it’s in poor taste.

Maybe we wouldn't have had to push Mitchell back if your boy Mike Conley could have beaten Memphis without him.

Truth is, Don had a bad high ankle sprain. Those things don't 100% heal for months. Another game, few games even couple weeks could have still had the same result. A little tweak is all it needs to regress again.

The correlation between competent medical practice and injury isn’t super tight. It would only come in areas where specific decisions have to be made, and even in those circumstances the correlation has so many other confounding variables.

A few extra games wasn’t going to make a difference, except drawing out or even losing the series and wearing everyone else down. Donovan should’ve either played game 1 or not played at all.

An example of where a team physician can mismanage something would be like giving a guy with Achilles tendinitis a cortisone shot and letting him play, then watching him rupture his Achilles (Okur). In any case, however, there isn’t necessarily absolute right-and-wrong in those situations, but rather an informed understanding of the risks and benefits so that a decision can be made.

I would have leaned towards not at all. Utah would have been able to win the series without him IMO.

Yeah, Im not saying 100% this is the reason, but I think it's silly to not think it's a possibility.

I just fear we have a coaching and training staff that is going to placate players too much. "Oh, this guys wants to be tough and play through injuries because it fits his brand, let's let him do that."

Even though Conley’s injury was probably inevitable and all the ballhandlers were cooked, scouted, or bad?

This is some clown **** dude.
Yup. The Jazz still would have won.

Jazz barely lost game 1 because Gobert was in heavy foul trouble. The series would have been fine
