OK, good point, I was forgetting they are under. They'd still have to want to give up the cap room to take an AK or a Millsap without giving anything back. Right now they sit around $26M committed, so if they would take AK for the pick, they are at $43M and they barely have enough for one max deal. You might be right that they won't make a big splash this year, but I doubt they were willing to concede that on draft night.
I don't think I said Boozer for Favors wouldn't work, although I am skeptical. They had three assets going into Thursday night: the #3 pick and cap space for two max deals. I don't see why any team would use one asset (the pick) in an attempt to sign someone they could get outright with the other asset (the cap space). If they really had Boozer targeted, I think they would just pick a different position (Wesley Johnson?) and then go after Boozer hard, as was rumored.
