Jazz tried desperately to trade up to get Cousins

Battie's contract is expired. Only Harris, Yi, Lopez, Lee and Williams and soon Favors are under contract next year. There are some option years.

Chad Ford also said the Jazz were being very "creative" in their attempts. Not sure what all that entails, but I would guss it involved trading anyone not named "Deron" and "Paul" and probably a future pick.

The Jazz or any team for that matter would give up Millsap in a NY minute to move up in the draft but no GM in the league would do that. We really had no assets to use in a trade of that impact.

It's really a tough trade for the Jazz to make because they are trying to bridge the gap between #3 and #9, but the more value they give, the more NJ has to take back from a salary perspective.

For example, Millsap for Keyon Dooling and Kris Humphries works, but is Millsap enough that NJ would give up 6 spots in the draft? Probably not. So try AK, but then NJ has no choice but to send Devin Harris along with Dooling and Humphries. Let's just say they think AK is valuable enough to make up for dropping 6 spots, but then they also gave up Harris and they want to be compensated for him as well.

I just don't see a trade that makes sense there, no matter how hard the Jazz and Nets try. Maybe if the Nets had more dead weight on their roster it could have worked out.

OK, good point, I was forgetting they are under. They'd still have to want to give up the cap room to take an AK or a Millsap without giving anything back. Right now they sit around $26M committed, so if they would take AK for the pick, they are at $43M and they barely have enough for one max deal. You might be right that they won't make a big splash this year, but I doubt they were willing to concede that on draft night.

I don't think I said Boozer for Favors wouldn't work, although I am skeptical. They had three assets going into Thursday night: the #3 pick and cap space for two max deals. I don't see why any team would use one asset (the pick) in an attempt to sign someone they could get outright with the other asset (the cap space). If they really had Boozer targeted, I think they would just pick a different position (Wesley Johnson?) and then go after Boozer hard, as was rumored.

What is NJ's incentive?
If Boozer wants to play in NJ, he can sign a 5-yr MAX deal. As someone just below the top-tier FA's, I don't think Boozer is going to have more than a couple of solid offers. NJ will say, this is the deal...take it or leave it. There's also some bad blood between Carlos and Lebron. 1) Carlos walked out on Cleveland after he (or his agent) verbally agreed to an illegal deal. 2) Boozer openly complained about not getting plays called for him (i.e.e everything going to Lebron). I think playing alongside Lebron is EXTREMELY low on Boozer's list.

IMO, Boozer's preferences are probably Miami, Chicago, New York, Washington, New Jersey (but without LBJ).

I don't know. Deron has proven he can do a petty good job of defending a taller 2 guard. He is very strong and holds his ground well. I remember them switching him on to Kevin Martin one game, and Brandon Roy another game were he was able to shut them down. I would even say D-Will might guard the big 2 bette than he guards the quick PG's

Undoubtedly, but I wary over a full game stretch. He's not great at big PGs like Baron Davis and Tyreke Evans, so while he's fine over the course of a possession, minute, quarter, I have fears of all game, night in and night out.
