If we trade Millsap/Harris/Jefferson for cap space what about going after Lin?

Insider article from today:

The Knicks expect to re-sign Jeremy Lin, especially since they can use the Early Bird exception to do it. With that said, the team may not match an offer sheet, if it's too big.

The Knicks can only give him a four-year contract for about $24.5 million, however he could receive an offer sheet that exceeds $30 million to $35 million and that might be too expensive due to luxury tax concerns, speculates Chris Broussard of ESPN The Magazine.

An offer sheet for Lin by another team is limited to $5 million in the first year for the Knicks and $5.2 million in year two. The third and fourth years could increase dramatically and that is the concern for New York as they already owe Carmelo Anthony, Tyson Chandler and Amare Stoudemire a lot of money.

According to Broussard, Brooklyn, Dallas and Toronto could make a run at Lin if they can't sign their top targets. For Brooklyn and Dallas it's Deron Williams and for Toronto it's Steve Nash.

The Knicks gameplan regarding Lin is to let the market dictate how much they are going to offer the point guard.

I doubt we get cap space. We'd trade those players and get players in return.
Lin had a few sensational weeks when he was the primary option on a run and gun team. He played in only 35 games - 25 as a starter. That worries me. Can he be consistent, can he be effective in half-court sets? To pry away a RFA means you have to overpay. Lin is just too great a risk, IMO.

I don't think Lin's very good. I don't think he's awful, but he's nowhere near as good as some people think. Here's a list of PGs I'd rather have than Lin:

DWill
CP3
Westbrook
Rose
Rondo
Rubio
Nash
Curry
Irving
Parker
Lowry
Lawson
Wall
Holiday

Here's a list of PGs I would have tough time picking between them and Lin:

Collison
Jennings
Knight

I think you swap Lin with Isaiah Thomas and you wouldn't notice much difference on either team

did you read your own post there, 107? it said that it would take an 8-figure salary to make the knicks flinch. as in $10,000,000 or more. do you really think lin is worth 10M?

Huh? If its 4 years 35 million, that is still less than 10M a year. Ideally a 4 year 30 mil contract would be nice.
