Pac 10 Player of the year, underrated due to his size

He shot 46% from 3 his junior season as well as being a 88% career ft shooter. Left Cal as the school's all time scorer. I know his height puts him at a disadvantage in the NBA but with one of the last picks in the 2nd round we couldn't do much worse than taking Randle.

I've watched him for the 2 years that I've been at Cal. Sure he's got handles, but he can't run an offense very well from what I could tell. If anything, he would provide an offensive spark off the bench, which could still be nice especially for a 2nd round selection.

Kind of reminds me of an Earl Boykins type of player, with a slightly better outside shot. I wouldn't mind him in the 2nd round. Especially with where the Jazz are picking...there's not a whole lot of risk involved if he's there.

Does he ever pass the ball? All he did in the video was shoot, mostly three-pointers. Nearly three minutes of him shooting jumpers. Didn't see much ball handling and no passes at all.

Didn't see the first video when I made original post. Yeah, he can dribble but those wild crossovers will probably get picked a lot in the NBA. Not only that, again, it's mostly one-on-one and little passing

If there's a clearer endorsement of this guy (Archie Moses thinking he won't be an NBA player), I'd like to see it.

The Jazz would be very lucky to draft this kid. It's important to note his PIT performance as well.

It's also worth noting that he's 2nd all-time at Cal in assists.

I've been all over this guy for a while.

He's 5'9 and weighs 160 pounds. Defensive liability maybe? Plus, I'm not the only one saying it. He's not even getting camp invites, and isn't in a lot of mock drafts. Yep, you have a pretty clear endorsement, eh?

He's too small to translate to the pro game. He doesn't do the right thing enough on the court. He makes too many curious decisions with the ball. He turns over the ball too much, he can't finish at the rim.

He measured at 5'10" without shoes so he 5'11" to 6' with them. He was also about 169lbs. The key is the fact that he can shoot and he can pass and he very quick. He can be the 3rd point guard, but I don't know if draft him or if try to get him as an undrafted free agent.

While I can speak all day about each and every guy at the camp, I’ll just share with you who I was most impressed with. The invitational’s most valuable player was Jerome Randle, and he deserved it. While he wasn’t my favorite player to watch at the event, mostly because I had seen him for so many years and played against him because he went to Cal, he showed a side of himself that not many got to witness when he was at Berkeley.

Randle has always been a great passer, but in college he was a score first type point guard. His handle is beyond ridiculous and I promise you he can shoot a few feet inside the half court line with ease and knock it down fairly consistently. However, at the camp he became a pass first point guard. He reminded me of when Sebastian Telfair was in the McDonald’s All-American game and was going for the assist record. I had never seen Randle play this way before.

He came in with the same mind set as I did; scouts already knew he could score the ball--that was no secret--he wanted to show his ability to do other things, specifically create for others. Randle has always been capable of this, but at the camp he showed it consistently and made it look easy. Every once in a while he would reveal his sweet stroke and rock-solid handle, but he was practically involved in all of his team’s plays and was dropping some serious dimes.

Your link says he's 5'9 without shoes, not 5'10.

With all I've said, I have nothing against him. I hope he does play in the NBA. Looks like he would be a great story. It's just hard for me to get excited about a guy that's so small. Especially when we have a big, physical PG. Size does matter.

A big, physical PG that you bitch about with some regularity about not being fast enough. Randle's easily one of the fastest guy's in this entire draft (probably the fastest). And being undersized at PG should be one of the last concerns for the position as it's manned by the smallest guys on the court. If Brevin Knight can not only hold his own but be considered a very good defender for 13 seasons in the NBA, I see absolutely no reason why Randle's size should be such an issue.

Randle would give the Jazz good backup minutes and in general give the team something it doesn't have (elite speed), and something it severely lacks (more than one player that can make something happen with the ball in their hands).

If you give me the choice between a beanpole with no length that is a great playmaker but can't shoot and has underwhelming speed (Maynor), and a guy that's 5 inches shorter but the same weight and can actually force the defense to pay attention with his speed, passing ability, and shooting, I take the latter.

I think Randle would fit right in with the jazz. The way we used Price we could use Randle, he has longer shooting range then Price and he is a better play maker overall. He'll come into the league with a chip on his shoulder ready to prove people wrong.

Shouldn't most second rounder come with a 'chip' on their shoulder then?

I'd rather take a flyer on Paul Millsap's brother in the 2nd round.

I really don't think we will have to draft Elijah Millsap. Wesley Matthews is/was a better player and he didn't get drafted. Wingman who struggle dribbling and shooting from long distance have to claw their way in the league--he reminds a lot of Jeffers.

Plus, who knows if the Jazz would have even kept Welsey if it weren't for a few things like CJ breaking his thumb and Paul Harris hadn't hurt his ankle or knee. I forget what it was.
