Will the Jazz big lineup, Millsap-3 Favors-4 Jefferson-5, cause the Spurs problems?

What surprises me about that look is how good its been defensively; I just don't know if they can play that way against all San Antonio's floor spacers. It's asking a lot of Millsap and Jefferson defensively, and Favors can't block shots at the 3-point line.
He clearly has not watched a Jazz game since it was implemented. For some reason Hollinger thinks Favors is playing Small Forward.

I don't think he's talking about that at all, he says "it's asking a lot of Millsap and Jefferson defensively" grouping them together as if they're playing downlow and Favors is guarding the 3. The Spurs don't have 4 players camping around the 3 point line all the time. They have their PF sometimes swing out there, yes, but for the most part, they do have two bigmen downlow, even if they need to have a small forward there in which case Favors will switch off on him.

Nice attempt at a cover.

I dont think he thinks Favors is a 3. He is talking about him guarding a guy like Bonner who plays the 4 and can shoot. But vice versa Bonner can not guard Favors on the other end.

And John Hollinger is absolutely correct.

Some folks on this board are making it sound like the Spurs suck, we've dominated them this year, and that anyone who accuses our Big 3 of being less than perfect is somehow crazy or ignorant.

Umm...

The Spurs beat us down 3 out of 4 times (would have swept us had Pops not rested his Big 3). Not much has changed in the last few weeks folks. The Spurs didn't suddenly trade Tony Parker for Earl Watson. And we didn't suddenly get Lebron James for CJ Miles.

Folks need to realize "successful" playoff run for the Jazz realistically is to win 1 game against the Spurs, stay competitive in all the others, and play Hayward, Burks, and Favors as much as possible.

Anything more than 1 win against the Spurs is a bonus.

Beating them, would probably be one of the biggest upsets in playoff history. Given how the Spurs have dominated us for 10+ years, the Spurs are playing extremely well right now, they're completely healthy, have HC, and we just flat out don't match up very well with them.

True, Memphis had size against them last year. However, Memphis also had Zebo, who played unbelievably well (MVP Shaq like offensively), and the Spurs didn't have guys like Diaw, Lenord, and Green.

I'm not sure we're as good as the Grizz were last year... And this Spurs team is certainly better than last year's.

Again, keep things realistic. John Hollinger is right. Our Big 3 have a very difficult matchup defensively.

Use this opportunity to stay competitive, give the young guys some experience, and for Ty Corbin to grow as a coach against the best coach in basketball.

What the **** are you talking about?

Well, if Favors starts at PF, he won't be consistently guarding a player like Matt Bonner. Bonner comes of the bench for San Antonio. DeJuan Blair is their starter at PF (6'7", 260 pounds). He definitely does NOT play on the perimeter. However, as I stated in an earlier thread, if the Jazz decide to give Jeremy Evans most of the time at the back up PF spot (like they should if Millsap plays primarily at SF during the series), his athleticism and defensive ability would be matched up against Matt Bonner. I like that match up for us. We could even look at guarding Bonner with Demarree Carroll if we really wanted to.

He is realistic about this. Should not be that confusing my brother.

No, he's going on some absurd tangent that no one else in this thread was really talking about. Craig K. said that Hollinger's opinion of Favors not being able to contest 3point shots was stupid, and several posters told him why he was wrong.

well, actually, since you asked, I like all the ****ing beans. But, I'm not sure I can continue eating them when my bowels are spread out by three-point shooting gaseous bacteria. I shall try.

Accurate assessment I think. We'll just hope their long range shots are off (not likely) and that we can compensate for their shooting with physical play in the post, DEFENSE, and easy transition baskets.

I love how the legend grows...

Dude shot exactly 50%, and put up 21.5 and 9.2. Nowhere close to Shaq in his prime. AlJeff could certainly put up the same numbers (hell...Millsap could too).

The big lineup matches up well against San Antonio's starters. Stick Al on Blair (who was the roll man on only 127 PnRs this season according to mysynergysports.com), Favors on Duncan and Millsap on Leonard. Tony Parker will still be a problem, but I could see that working out pretty well.

nice pairings.
And, Millsap should abuse the hell out of the rookie.
