Korver and Burks trade

Just based on stats after the first 3 weeks or so since the trade:

Burks is scoring 3 more points per game with a lot more rebounds per game. He is getting almost twice as many minutes though and his fg% is down a bit.

Korver is averaging about 2 ppg more but his shooting % from the 3 dropped about 10 points from 45% to 36%. His free throw percentage dropped similarly. He gets a few more attempts and minutes but lost some accuracy coming here.

Overall, I think both teams did well in this trade but I also think if both players accuracy improve back to their previous 2018 levels it would be a great trade for both organizations.

Somehow Burks had the unique ability of turning easy shots that the offense produced into contested/difficult layups, which at this point in his career he oftentimes missed

I wasn't commenting on the trade itself but just that the players both have vastly different games and abilities.

I agree the Jazz needed Korver and liked the addition, however I will miss Alec as he was seemingly a very likeable guy that the locker room loved having around and his ability was something that IMO only Mitchell is able to provide. Someone that can get a shot any time they want when the offense breaks down, however it was clear that he and the Jazz were destined to go their separate ways this summer and so it made sense to get something for him before then.

Also it doesn't help when I heard the trade that I was or am still bitter that OKC was able to flip Melo for Dennis Schröder, I mean how in the F does ATL have a basketball team after that, seriously. That was the most underrated move that isn't talked about nearly enough OKC got a near Eastern Conference All Star level player AND was able to get out of Melo's H O R R I B L E contract that was going to cost OKC near 90mil with tax penalties.

NYK would've done back flips and try to give ATL multiple first round picks for Schröder a year earlier. OKC should've had to give up a HUGE amount of assets to get out of that cap room hell they were in with Melo, but ATL like the POS franchise they are comes strolling a long and says we're doubling down on our stupid *** franchise stupidity.

Watch as not only do we trade what would've been Luca Dončić that would've turned our franchise around, we're going to trade our best player for NOTHING but hold on that's not all, we're going to also take the worst contract in the NBA for him, then cut him while helping another NBA franchise get out of cap space hell that may have caused them to have to sacrifice signing or re-signing good role players.

Sorry I know that's another topic all together and I went off on a rant.

I also know there were rumors of legal trouble for Schröder but I have yet to find anything of substance that will amount to any kind of trouble for him.

This post isn't about 'still debating this trade'. It's about checking out the stats 3 weeks after the trade to start to quantify the swap for both players/teams beyond just the eye test. Also, the fact that Korver's shooting is down from 46% to 39% (thanks for the correction) either means he has room for improvement with more shots (good sign) OR he doesn't get the same types of looks in Utah as he did in Cleveland. It will be interesting to watch.

He’s shooting more (both FG and 3PA) per minute here than at any point in his career. However, it seems he’s missing more of the good looks and still connecting on a good percentage of quick releases. I know Cy had some stats showing that he shoots better when contested. Hopefully his attempts stay up or increase. I feel the universe is righting the wrongs of our misuse of him the first time around. In any case I’ll take a dude having some “down” three point shooting on 40% with 10 attempts per 36.

I love Burks and will always remember him fondly but Jesus Christ, Korver is so much better at playing winning basketball, even being 12 years older.
