Koufos / #9 for Thabeet

with Memphis being set at center with Gasol, they could go for a replacement for Randolph in a power forward heavy draft. I could see them taking Ed Davis, Udoh, or even Patterson with the #9.

Utah gets the shot blocking center they need to clog up the middle!

I like this lineup for Utah on both ends of the floor:

Williams
Miles
Kirilenko
Millsap
Thabeet

not a bad lineup for memphis either:

Conley
Mayo
Gay or Brewer
Davis
Gasol

he might not be worth the pick, but he was the 2nd pick in the draft and has upside and size...i think memphis would want more for him than their pick back and koufos!

i like thabeet better than anyone the jazz are looking at this year except Monroe and maybe Aldrich

Memphis wouldnt do it. Koufus is worth nothing, so this is practically Thabeet for #9. Memphis had to know Thabeet would be a project, and I dont think they would want to give up on him this early.

#9 pick is too high. And just for reference on how much Memphis values him, they used him as salary filler in an attempt to grab Monta Ellis. I can't cite directly, but someone in their FO basically referred to Thabeet as dead-weight salary.

And I still believe in Koufos. He's really young and hasn't played a lot of minutes total (but showed awesome flashes in his rookie year). The third year is a pinnacle for players, so I'd like to see what he can do when actually given a shot at rotation minutes.

If the Jazz can find a way to trade Memo to Memphis for Thabeet, I'd be far more interested in that (though with most other teams, that'd likely be impossible).

I don't think KoKo will ever turn it around. If it was KoKo for Thabeet straight up I would do it. Not for the Number 9.

The big problem with Thabeet, like Beasley, is he was picked 2nd and makes a rather hefty amount over his rookie contract. 4.8 million next year..all the way up to 8.4 for his qualifying offer year. So basically Memphis is going to be paying him to develop in D league and by the time he can actually contribute they will having to worry about matching a restricted free agency offer from another team. Koufas, at least, is a cheap bust. You don't want Thabeet.

I'd say no to this trade. Jazz may get a total surprise at #9 better that Thabeet and still keep Koufos.

If it was Fes and Koufos for Thabeet I would do it, but no way the number 9 pick. There is a still the possibility to move up in the draft too, but we need to keep the 9th pick in order for that to happen.
