His drive and tear drop at 6.25 min mark is pretty amazing. Hard to believe a 7'3 guy is doing that in his rookie year no less. I remember watching a full game of his posted here on Jazzfanz when he was in Europe and although I saw potential I did not think in a million years he could have put it all together this well this quickly.
PG_AG, do you know how much of an impact the Knicks coaching staff is having on him? I know Kurt Rambis is the assistant coach there, is he a big reason for Porzingis' success?
I'm not sure how much credit the Knicks coaching staff deserves tbh, Fisher and the Knicks won a game late last year vs the Lakers that changed lottery odds -- Fans (thirsting for Okafor) killed Fisher for the win, and they ended up lucking into Porz at #4 anyways. So you could say there was some serendipity involved in the Knicks landing him, onset by the coaching staff, coaching to win down the stretch of a tank year.
They could've taken the reins off of Kris slightly earlier. Fisher seems to be getting better since the start of the season, It's certainly still a work in progress.
It's safe to say Porz was a damn good player before he ever touched ground in the US. Most of the weight he's added is certainly from pre-draft. I'd credit Kris tbh, he's making it happen.
I'd probably credit the Front office more than the coaching staff, several things needed to be fixed for them to be competitive, and it seems Phil's pulled it off. It's quite apparent that Porzingis is the cornerstone player now. Carmelo's faltering but with Kris there things are much easier for him -- He's still gotta adjust to it. They should've totally went after Kosta Koufos for near 30 mil than RoLo for over 50 though.
