Actor Leslie Nielsen, best known for his film roles in "Airplane" and "The Naked Gun" series, died Sunday of complications from pneumonia, his family said.

Nielsen, 84, died in a hospital near his home in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, surrounded by his wife and friends.

"In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in his name to the charity of your choice," the family said in a statement

There are very few movies that I will stop and watch if they're on TV, no matter what part of the movie it's on, "AIRPLANE!" is one of those movies. I will never forget the motorized dildozer on Naked Gun 2 1/2 (youtube "Naked gun 2 1/2: Erotic store scene") -- easily the best 5 seconds in cinematic history.

Even his terrible movies were awesome. This sucks.

Guy had some career - 30 years as a dramatic character actor. Then he does Airplane (I think his first comedy) and has another 30 years as a comedic actor.

IMDB says he had two credits in the works - guy kept busy; even at such an advanced age.

I'm not a huge fan of spoof movies, but Airplane is an all time classic. Good times.

Airplane! was so funny, it even made Zero Hour funny in retrospect. My kids were watching Mr. Magoo just the other day. A great talent is gone from the world.

Rest in peace, you sweet prince.

A true loss.

Lt. Frank Drebin: I couldn't believe it was her. It was like a dream. But there she was, just as I remembered her. That delicately beautiful face. And a body that could melt a cheese sandwich from across the room. And breasts that seemed to say ... "Hey! Look at these!" She was the kind of woman who made you want to drop to your knees and thank God you were a man! She reminded me of my mother, all right. No doubt about it.

You will be missed; Dr. Rumack, Lt. Frank Drebin

They showed us Airplane in our elementary school. I don't remember it well, but I'm guessing it sucked just based on that fact though. Naked Gun was cool.

I actually saw "The Naked Gun" there, and thought of that line every time I drove by the theater. RIP Leslie and RIP Cinedome.

Man, I'm saddened enough by Nielsen's death, and then someone brings the Cinedome into the topic.

*sigh*

What's next, someone mentioning the Wilshire? oops...
