post inane religious statements on facebook...

especially if they're gonna ask everyone else to "like" it or to "copy and paste this in your status"

also, mamas - don't let your babies grow up to send chain-letter e-mails for any purpose whatsoever

PLEASE!!!!

Were they inspired by Glen Beck's get together at the National Mall?

well, unless I'm misunderstanding your question, in at least two of the cases, most definitely not - one friend's "message" particularly surprised me because she's a radical left-leaning liberal, a semi-practicing Catholic who opposes the church on practically every position, and tends to be quite intolerant of anything she perceives as religious fanaticism.

at any rate, I think it would be really cool if Andrew Lloyd Weber and Tim Rice would do an updated internet-era version of Jesus Christ Superstar. They could call it "Jesus Christ Facebook Friend" - - that seems to roll off the tongue pretty handily.

Gameface with a swing and a miss. **WHIFF!!**

so how's this for a rewritten version of the chorus:

Jesus Christ
Jesus Christ
Who are you? What have you sacrificed?
Jesus Christ
facebook friend
Do you think you know how this will end?

pretty catchy, eh?

at any rate, it occurred to me that I'm probably barking up the wrong tree (so to speak) in complaining about chain-letter e-mails. given that this message board crowd seems to be predominantly male, I wonder if it's much of an issue for you? I can't say I recall ever receiving one that was sent by a guy. Do guys even do this?

like maybe with porn or something? or would that violate some sort of postal regulations?

Yeah, that's cool. The whole Glen Beck revival meeting sort of creeps me out. I wondered if it influenced religious people to go out and express their "Christian religion based patriotism."

Jesus Christ facebook friend sounds like a hit to me.

Nothing creepier than a bunch of religious people getting together and praising God. Now Burning Man......that ****'s normal.

What were the Facebook postings?

here are a couple of the most recent:
friend X likes With God all things are possible!! If you agree, press like!!!!!!

friend Z ikes Jesus is my Lord, my Strength, and my SAVIOR!! Press Like if you agree!

No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us. [1 John 4:12]: if you agree, copy and paste this in your status

and one of the e-mails I recently received, really REALLY long esp. since the text was interspersed with a ton of religious images:

Take time for the God who gives us everything!
Time For God

Read only if you have Time for God
Let me tell you, make sure you read
All the way to the bottom.
I almost deleted this email but I was blessed when I got to the end

God, When I received this E-mail, I thought...

I don't have time for this...
And, this is really
Inappropriate during work.

Then, I realized that this kind
Of thinking is.... Exactly, what
Has caused a lot of the problems
In our world today.

We try to keep God in Church on Sunday morning....
Maybe, Sunday night... And, the unlikely event of a midweek Service.

We do like to have Him Around during sickness....
And, of course, At funerals.

However, we don't have
Time, or room, for Him
During work or play...

Because.. That's the part of
Our lives we think... We can,
And should, handle on our own.

May God forgive me
For ever thinking...

That... There is a time Or place where..
HE is not to be FIRST In my life.

We should always
Have time to remember
All HE has
Done for us.

If, You aren't
Ashamed to
Do this...

Please follow the Directions.

Jesus said, 'If you are
Ashamed of me, I will be
Ashamed of you
Before my Father.'

Not Ashamed?

Pass this on ONLY
IF YOU
MEAN IT!!
Yes, ..... I DO
Love God.

HE is my source of
Existence
And Savior.

He keeps me functioning
Each and every day.
Without Him, I will be Nothing.
But, with Christ, HE strengthens me.
(Phil 4:13)

This is the Simplest test.

If You Love God...
And, are not ashamed of
All the marvelous things
HE has done for you...

Send this to ten people
And the person who
Sent it to you!

Now do you have the
Time to pass it on?

Make sure that you Scroll Through to the end.

Easy vs. Hard

Why is it so hard to tell
The truth but Yet so
Easy to tell a lie?

Why are we so sleepy
In church but Right when
The sermon is over we
Suddenly wake up?

Why is it so easy to
Delete a Godly e-mail,
But yet we forward
All of the nasty ones?

Of all the free gifts
We may receive,
Prayer Is the very best one.....

There are no costs,
But wonderful rewards...

GOD BLESS!

Notes: Isn't it funny how Simple it is for people
To trash God and then Wonder why the
world's going to hell.

Isn't it funny how someone can say
'I believe in God' but still follow Satan
(who, by the way, also 'believes' in God).

Isn't it funny how you can send a thousand
jokes through e-mail and they spread like
wildfire, but when you start sending
messages regarding the Lord,
people think twice about sharing?

Isn't it funny how when you go to forward
this message, you will not send it to many
on your address list because you're not
sure what they believe, or what they will think
of you for send it to them

Isn't it funny how I can be more worried
about what other people think of me
than what God thinks of me.

I pray, for everyone who sends this to
their entire address book, they will be blessed
by God in a way special for them.

And send it back to the person who sent it,
to let them know that indeed it was sent out to many more.

How abhorrent! Today's youth espousing a belief in virtue and spirituality?! Oh, the horror if it all!!

I hate chain e-mails with a passion. I've never passed one along. Can't say that anything bad has happened to me, but I've haven't been blessed with good luck or an unexpected windfall, either.
I don't do Facebook, but if it is now filled with silly little games like what you are claiming, then thank dog I'm not a part of it. What I'd probably do is say to my "friends"...why don't you stop wasting so much time posting these religious quips and poems and go out there and help your fellow man. Don't you think that would make you a better Christian than passing this e-mail along to 10 people?
