Yeah I think his uptick this year is due to teams trying to leverage the old cliche of "go right at the shot-blocker" a little more this season. We have seen quite a few teams start with this approach, then quickly abandon it. When they don't, he gets 9 blocks apparently.I really like this kind of prose.
I've more or less drawn the same notion outta the stats. How is he such a great defender with no blocks. The idea was simmering but you slapped it on my plate.
I'd really like to see that stat done officially in all the stat tables. Say let's call it "Forced Retreats", maybe "Intimidation Reversals", maybe "Low Paint Wallouts". Isn't that what the Jazz first got famous for? I think it only fair to call the stat the "Mark Eaton". I know Mark Eaton actually blocked a lot of shots and actually got a lot of rebounds. I think he changed the game, or helped, in the trend that has followed for various more remote sorts of plays. But hey. I know Mark Eaton because he was a friend of a family member who worked with him on some charitable projects. He is really a nice guy, but in his spot he was the most feared defender of the basket.
