What's new

McDermott / Gordon

I posted in the draft thread, but thought i'd post here.

As a Jazz fan and with the team improving enough to be outside the top 5 in this draft, would you be happy with a draft of Aaron Gordon and Doug McDermott? Both players seem to be good fits with this current core. I can also see the Jazz trading up if possible. With Neto potentially coming over next season, I doubt the Jazz will want 4 rookies (including their second round pick)

Burke Neto
Hayward Burks
McDermott Evans
Favors Gordon
Gobert Kanter

nice young core!

McDermott would be a nice addition. But I doubt the Jazz will be able to trade up to get him. He could very well go at the end of the lottery or right after. GS pick may be in the 22-24 range. Of course Gordon may slip.

I don't see Gobert and Favors starting together, nor do I think McDermott is a starter. IMO, Jazz are likely to sign a stretch-4 as a FA and plug him into the starting lineup. Same may be true at SF. Upgrade over MW and RJ in the starting-5. Add their picks + Neto to Burks and Kanter off the bench. That's a decent 10 and haven't even put Evans in there.

Seen 3 games of McDermott this year and I don't think he is a NBA player. Maybe I just haven't seen enough, but not seeing why some have him pegged as a top-20 pick.

He looks like one of those guys who is really good in college, but not that good in the NBA...

I have no doubt that Doug McDermott can score on the NBA level. I've read several scouts think he is the will be the best shooter in the draft. I don't know if he will be able to guard anyone. I think he will be a SF in the league. I've seen him play several times and he has a beautiful looking shot. Mark my words, he will be next years ROTY if he is on the right team.

Thing I don't like is that he is force fed shots. He isn't going to get that many shots in the NBA and will have to adjust to a whole new role.

He definitely isn't a starter in my eyes. Could be a bench player.

This.

He's not an NBA player. Most of his shots close to the rim would get blocked pretty easily.

Good point, he's going to have to go to the right team to be a successful player.

What team is the right team for McDermott.

Like, not looking for a specific team, but what style would be the right fit?

Trying to think of a player to compare him too, and all I have is Ryan Anderson. Anderson is a decent amount taller though.

One with a very good coach that would know how to use him, set plays up that utilize him.

The reason why I think McDermott can succeed is his ability to catch and shoot off screens.

Whitey busts like Morrison and Jimner never excelled at that.

on the app. square bizness.
