In 1750? Highly questionable good sir. The tenets of empiricism render that assertion highly unlikely. An ale-fueled fever dream is a more reasonable conclusion.

I lived in the southern Mexican state of Guerrero for much of 1999-2000 and conducted research there until late-summer 2008, so the story is informed by my experience. If you are bored give it a look.
