My Realistic Jazz Off-Season

I thought I might as well write down some thoughts about the Jazz off season before the draft gets started next week.

Scenario 1:

DRAFT NIGHT

Trade with the Pistons.

#12, Burke, and future 1st. FOR #8 and Jennings

This way Detroit is able to load off Jennings who is coming off a bad injury. They get Burke, who is a local kid, to play back up point guard for them. This also allows them to have room to resign Jackson. The Pistons can use the #12 pick to get Oubre, SF, or one of the bigs that drops.

The Jazz get Jennings, who could be a potential back up PG. With the #8 pick we choose Hezonja, who has a lot of potential and adds much needed 3pt shooting.

We need another big man on the roster, but there aren't too many that would be available for us. I'm thinking we offer some money for Jerebko, who seems like he could be a nice big off the bench. He has a little bit of shooting touch too. I think Snyder could make something out of it.

Exum/Jennings/Cotton
Burks/Hezonja/Milsap
Hayward/Hood/Ingles
Favors/Booker
Gobert/Jerebko

Jerebko won't be that much money so we will be able to keep our options open for the future. I don't see any other players that we would want to over pay, our roster is pretty set to grow.

Scenario 2:

DRAFT NIGHT

We sit tight with the #12 pick and pick Turner who is available. Everyone is happy.

Our roster:

Exum/Burke/Cotton
Burks/Hood/Milsap
Hayward/Ingles
Favors/Booker
Gobert/Turner

Turner fills a need on our roster. I don't see any significant player in FA that we would need to add to this roster. I would take these players and see where they go. Potential upgrades could be at SF and PF on the bench, but we might have the players already on the rosters.

So what do you guys think? I think Scenario 1 is a better team, but I'd be really happy with Scenario 2.

I tried to sell scenario 1. draft night trade to Detroit fans and they didn't like it. I still feel like it accomplishes a ton of things for both teams and I keep hearing from Detroit reporters and analysts that SVG will try to trade down and he's on the record saying he thinks this draft is 12 deep, so I don't know... I feel like it's the absolute perfect trade if they indeed want to trade down. They get enough out of it - cheap PG back up, future pick, they get rid off a contract they don't want, we get a short-term back up while Dante grows, we get one of the best prospects in the draft in Hezonja without giving up too much... I'd be really happy with such scenario, but again - I was shut down by their fans pretty unanimously.

I'd be happy with either scenario...

I would be happy with either scenario, but would prefer the 1st one due to Hezonja. Also, if Jennings were able to return anywhere close to his level of play prior to the injury, we could end up being better than a #7-8 seed (which seems like the best case scenario as we currently stand). Jerebko would be a good addition as a stretch 4 but, unless I'm mistaken, isn't really a 5 so we would likely still need to sign a backup C (which I'm not sure we would have enough $ to do so in addition to Jerebko after absorbing Jennings' salary). The only problem I see with either scenario is that I don't believe Hezonja will be there at #8 or Turner at #12. Hope I'm wrong tho because both would be steals. Good ideas.

Edit: I stand corrected regarding Jerebko, apparently he spent the majority of his time with BOS playing C. His natural position is PF, but with Favors & Gobert, we could likely get away with using him as our backup 5 so long as we pick our spots when playing him alongside Booker. Good idea as he shouldn't be too expensive & would fill our need for a stretch big. Also, in the 1st scenario, I think minutes could become an issue on the wing, & possibly create a similar situation to the one we had with Kanter, as I'm not sure Hezonja would be willing to settle for a small role (which is the situation he is currently trying to get out of overseas).
