I'm in the middle of a job change and need a new phone where people can reach me at all times. I don't need a Salty phone that reminds me to take a dump and then wipes my *** at 4G speed. Just a simple phone that makes calls, texts, e-mails and I guess gives me internet access although this isn't a priority. I also don't want to pay upwards of $200 for the damn thing. Oh, and it might be nice for it to have an MP3 player on it but this is absolutely an unnecessary luxury.

I'll be going through Verizon. Any suggestions? I'm kind of partial to the Samsung Continuum... mostly because it's only $49.99

If you need it for email, you might want to make sure it can open all attachments. I don't know the phones on Verizon, but the one you listed does have the hearing aid compatibility, so you should be fine.

The vast majority of those features are software features of the Android operating system. You'll find them on practically any Android phone.

This particular phone is running Android 2.1 (Eclair) which is really, really old. Almost all new phones run 2.3, while the majority of current phones run 2.2. You probably don't care too much about cutting edge software versions, but the newer versions really are better in a lot of ways.

You can get better prices on phones by buying from sites like Amazon Wireless or Wirefly. I got a Droid X a while back for $0.01, and it currently goes for $99 through Verizon. These sites are totally legit and safe to purchase from. If price is a concern buying from these sites opens up your options significantly.

It looks like Verizon has the Samsung Fascinate online for $99. I'd recommend this over the Continuum. It's part of the Galaxy S line which is very highly rated worldwide.
 
Swype is the only way to go with virtual keyboards. I HATE typing on my wife's iPhone 4. I have fingers bigger than a 12-year-olds and therefore I hit the wrong button most of the time. Swyping is so much better it isn't funny. It took me just a little while to get used to it and now I can type faster than I could on my Blackberry Bold, even though on that I got to where I could type entirely by touch.
 
I have a hard time getting used to Swype. Instead I use Swiftkey X, which has an unmatched prediction engine. It builds a personalized prediction database using your gmail, facebook, and sms history. It's definitely the best "traditional" virtual keyboard around.

Love Swiftkey!! I have tried both Swiftkey and Swype. Wasn't a fan of Swype at all. I could never get it to type the right things. Swiftkey is so amazing with the predictions, that I barely even have to type anymore. It has saved me so many keystrokes. Just an FYI. I have an OG Droid with a physical keyboard. I never use the physical keyboard anymore since I found Swiftkey. I now have no desire to have a physical keyboard on my next phone.
