Norm Chow to be OC, Tim Davis to be O-Line coach. If this pans out it will be pretty huge.

LOL! Was talking to a Pac-10 guy and mentioned Utah and he said and I quote: Instead of "Utah" I prefer to refer to you guys as "The consolation prize for not getting Texas." Hope you don't mind.

Also Luther Ellis is probably going to be hired as the D-Line coach.

If all of this pans out, Utah will be looking good going forward.

"...after largely having little success with the Tennessee Titans, Chow’s offense failed to produce at UCLA. The Bruins went 4-8, 7-6, and 4-8 in Chow’s three years on the staff, ranking 109th, 94th, and 104th in the country in scoring offense."

Yeah, sounds very promising Salty. Nothing like a 64 year old offensive coordinator who hasn't been successful in over five years.

Let's all remember this post when Conan pulls his usual crap about Ute fans coming out of nowhere in some thread about BYU, trying to cast BYU in a poor light.

Conan, once I saw the title of the thread I knew you wouldn't be able to stay away, and true to form you did EXACTLY what I expected you to do. Well done.

I have low expectations for the utes first couple years in pac 12, i expect us to make a bowl game(possibly the vegas bowl again) but nothing more. Chow did not have a great record with UCLA but he does bring with him Pac 10 experience which should help our transition to a new conference go smoother than it would have been otherwise. I can't hate the move to get Chow from that perspective.

Chow's numbers at UCLA aren't good, but he did pretty well at just about every other stop he's been at so I'd still be pretty excited by the hire. The dude gave Utah and the rest of the WAC major headaches when he was at BYU. I think he'll help with recruiting as well. Probably the biggest reason for me liking the move is that I thought Utah was going to stand pat with their two OC's. It was obvious that the offense was not working when Utah got to the harder part of their schedule. I was concerned that Whit would stand pat, but I'm thrilled that he's being aggressive in making some changes.

Bro, Chow sucked at UCLA and Tennessee, his last two stops. At USC, me, you or Archie could have been prolific. The dude's 64 and clearly on his way down. Expect the worst.

I saw the worst- games against TCU, Notre Dame and Boise State are solid proof. Hell even the BYU game was ugly for Utah. I have to believe that Chow is an upgrade over what Utah had going. Maybe I'm proven wrong, but I think it's worth a shot.

I don't know what to think of Chow's time with the Titans. First of all, I think he's better suited as a College Coordinator and he was also saddled with the impossible task of developing Vince Young into an NFL QB. If Vince Young ever gets a chance to start in the NFL again, he's not finished getting OC's fired.

So why did his offense not pan out at UCLA?

LOL

Excited over Chow?

He looked decent at USC when he had the best athletes in the NCAA on his team. Even still, the strength of USC was always the defense. The offense just had to not mess up and played conservatively (not necessarily because the defense was so good. But because Chow quite honestly, was very predictable.

At Tenn, he played way too conservatively and was fired.

At UCLA, his offense failed to produce any results.

Those who personally know Chow know that he's not exactly an innovative or detailed guy. He's not a bad offensive coordinator. Much like Anae might not be terrible. Smart arrogant guys, but not creative.

he's far from this Andy Reid, Sean Peyton, John Gruden, Mike Leach, Chip Kelley, Pat Fitzgerald, Jim Harbaugh, Al Borges, offensive minds.

Funny, cuz I was thinking the same thing about you.

I disagree with this statement. You don't have back-to-back quarterbacks get the Heisman trophy by "looking decent, playing conservatively, being predictable", and simply trying to "not mess up".

I admittedly didn't follow Chow's career at UCLA, but I assume he was running his usual Pro-Style offense? I'm interested to see if that's what Utah adopts 100% if Chow is hired. On one hand it makes sense because Wynn is obviously not a spread QB but it seems as if Utah's most current QB recruiting targets are more spread oriented.

It will be interesting to see if Utah dumps the spread completely.
