What's new

Game Thread Nov 12, 2024 07:00PM MT: Phoenix Suns @ Utah Jazz

Added to Calendar: 11-12-24

This feels like it could be kind of an important game for the tank. The Suns are only favored by a couple of points playing on the road without Durant. If we win, we might be building some momentum and confidence since that would be the 3rd win in 4 games. Lose, and we are now winless at home.

Any word on Lauri? Seems like he should sit out a few games after his fall last game.

I don't understand playing Lauri when he has any discomfort. He obviously has to be hurting a little from that fall last game. It's also been pointed out that he isn't moving as well because of his back.

We should be taking advantage of any legit opportunities to sit Lauri/
At this point, I'd accept being 'Out with seasonal depression or dealing with a slight cough.' We really need to stack up those L's.

I believe the idea is to get him his 65 games at the start of the season so that we can more aggressively sit him at the end of the season.

Not sure why. He won't get All-NBA or anything.

I'm just speculating. I agree he isn't getting any awards this year, but I'm guessing in his mind he has a chance. He also probably wants a chance at an All Star spot. I'm not sure what was communicated/discussed during contract negotiations, but I would assume this type of stuff was brought up.

At the same time, Lauri should have known what he was getting himself in to. I know he's a competitor, but I would think he could see the positives of getting through the year healthy.

A win tonight would be semi-inconspicuous since KD is out, but still signal to the Jazz faithful that next season, having beaten down another trade partner (OKC), that it’s on for reals!

If Lauri wants to play, he's going to play.
It really is simple as that.

A team that really, really wants to re-sign their only star player, surely isn't going to start those discussions with "how many games can we hold you out of even when healthy"... Even with Lauri understanding the situation the Jazz are in, that's not gonna be a topic of discussion in contract talks, ever.

He's committed to the Jazz, but that doesn't mean "see you back in 2027 if we get lucky". He wants to be as good as he can be, and that means playing every night.

So Lauri wanted to sit every game he sat during the last two years?

Contract discussions probably isn't correct, but Lauri spends time with Hardy and the Front Office. If I were him I would want to understand how aggressive the team planned on being with sitting me out.

It's a weird, gray court for the NBA Cup tonight. I didn't really care for the Laffy Taffy purple court last year, but this one is a bit dull, imo.

He was actually injured. Everyone thought he sat out the end of the season with a phantom injury, but then he missed Finland's olympic qualifying tournament months later - which he would've not wanted to miss for anything.
