You're being too fair. It's mostly about money. Dirk is a God in Deutschland. And not an ordinary one, he's like a Zeus. Actually it's interesting because they don't care about baskatball much.

And Germans are, err... how should I put this, Germans are rich. So NBA says "Long live the Fatherland!".

If Dirk got voted in, that would be one thing; but the fact that he was selected exposes the ASG as the complete sham that it is and always will be.

This is why I haven't watched an ASG in at least 20 years.

Because the ASG is for the fans. And the fans should get to pick the starters that they want to see play - naturally the most popular players may not necessarily be the best players. That's understandable.

However, there should be some integrity associated with picking the reserves. It should be based on players who may not be as popular as the Kobe's and Lebron's; but are having comparable seasons.

That's part of building/maintaining a fan base - by using the ASG to give exposure to players on a national level with not a lot of hype surrounding them; but with a talent level equal to or greater than the most popular players.

Personally, I think they should just give the players 3 days off for rest and eliminate the game. I really no longer watch the game. I think Love and Aldridge deserve it. Every year there are players who deserve an All-star selection but there are only so many slots.

I think Millsap is in the discussion but I don't feel as bad as when Malone wasn't voted in and A. C. Green was. The fan voting is a popularity contest and nothing more. As guys age fans still vote them in even if they are not the same player as they were. I don't think Dirk making the team is surprising or scandalous at all.

I'd much rather have Millsap and Jefferson rested and ticked to wreck havoc on the league.
