Highlights from that same game. I remember Heaven had a very strong second quarter. Mainly like what I saw from Favors and Hayward at the end of the game.

You trying to get banned?

Ahh shoot, I guess that could be drawn as little suggestive eh? If I could edit the title, I would. Sorry ModCo.

Without further adieu...

I forgot how badly Wallace flopped on that. He got hit by Evans and was like "Damn, that boy is light, that barely even moved me....... wait, I need to launch myself backwards inconspicuously!"

on the favors video... the thing i love about this is that he was a total beast in that game and STILL had a ton of room for improvement. he did all that damage without having any real staple move (was kind of improvising every time he touched it) and looked to be winded. with better conditioning (a benefit of P3 we probably don't talk about enough), the guy could be poised for a big jump. also, that's a pretty decent frontline of a quality NBA team that he terrorized in that video.

on the hayward video... one thing that occurred to me is how much we may miss harris' ability to push the tempo. hayward is so lethal in transition, but without an up-tempo guard to push the ball ahead of the D, who knows if we'll see as many of those type of plays as would benefit hayward. that video seriously had 3-4 different plays where hayward scored only because harris took the outlet, ran up the backs of the defenders and then made a nice pass from near halfcourt. i'm just not sure we're gonna see a lot of that out of mo, but we'll see.

not only was it a flop (and, therefore, not a charge), but Wallace was inside the restricted area when Evans TOOK OFF. Therefore, again, not a charge.

I disagree with the second paragraph. The main problem I had with Harris is that he often would just keep it himself on the fast break, even when he had someone to go to. We aren't going to miss Devin's passing one bit.

while that might have been true on some occasions, look at the video i'm referring to. hayward scores more than once because of a push-ahead pass by harris. harris is one of the quickest guys in the game and is a better passer than we ever gave him credit for. certainly a better playmaker than mo, although mo will bring other things to the table that devin did not.

:10 - harris pushes across midcourt then dishes to hayward for an open 3.
:20 - harris pushes after a jump ball on the D end and threads a pass to hayward in the lane for 2 plus the foul
1:07 - not a fast break, but harris drives, causing the D to collapse, then hockey assists out to burks who finds an open hayward after one dribble. another 3.
1:19 - again, not a fast break, but harris swings the ball to hayward for another open 3 after the defense tries to double paul.

you're probably right, there were probably more than a few fast breaks where devin went 1-on-3 and tried to score... in this game, he definitely got hayward rolling and assisted on at least 11 of his points, plus the hocket assist on the drive-and-dish to burks.

I specifically remember him not being a good passer on the break. Sure he can get up and down the court fast and even finish. Heck, he isn't that bad of a shooter either. But it really bugged me that he wasn't the passer we needed. I'm sure I remember this clearly. It's one of the things I look for when watching. I'm really big on rewarding your big men too if they run the floor with you. I just didn't see it that much from him.

yeah like i said... i am sure there are times where that happened, and i remember some, too... i just think you're selectively unremembering the times he did the opposite.

at any rate, a PG's job isn't to pass on the break 100% of the time. the PG's job is to survey the options quickly and make the decision that results in the best opportunity to score. in the one season where harris was our primary floor leader, the jazz ranked #4 in fast break points per game. obviously that's not all harris, but a ton of it is, and that indicates that on a decent percent of opportunities, he made the RIGHT decision, whatever that was.

for comparison's sake, in 2009-10, mo's cavs were 18th in fast break points and in 08-09 they were 15th... and that was when he was playing with the most dangerous open-court player on the planet. the 2011-12 clippers were a LOT worse than you'd think, but it's hard to pin that on mo since he mostly played SG, and since he switched teams midway through 2010-11 i don't have stats for that year.

the lebron/mo cavs had the 25th slowest pace of play in both 2009-10 and 2008-09.

so all i'm saying -- and again, i KNOW mo has other strengths -- is that we're not gonna see as much push-the-ball-at-the-defenders'-backs play with mo.

After watching all these videos, I can't for the life of me understand how the Jazz didn't win the NBA championship. :D I am so excited about the games season starting. I can't wait to see how all our young guys have improved. The videos also showed me how much I hope Millsap stays with the Jazz. Dude is just clutch and a man.
