Other Team's GMs and Message Boards.

It seems like minimal due diligence that a member of an opposing team's front office might check other team's message boards to get a better idea or feel for a player.

What I'm getting at here is, is it possible we could be driving down our own player's value (Al, for example) just by talking about how much we might not want them?

Quick Numb, join me as the Jazzfanz Spin Doctor.
Al Jefferson didn't have a great series, but how is a post player suppose to score with 4 guys in the paint at all times? He still managed to carry the team offensively in the 3rd and 4th games despite the lack of half-court offensive help. With a team of 3pt shooters, like they have in Houston, Big Al could thrive.

message boards are full of irrational hacks. All of them. I'd be surprised if a message board actually changed the opinion of a GM. Dunno, though.

you cant shine **** and call it gold, the opposite could be said.

Al Jefferson is a BEAST. He is practically untradeable. A team would have to show up with a serious boat-load of awesome treats for the Jazz to EVEN CONSIDER parting with the greatest post player since Hakeem.

I love Al Jefferson! Wouldn't even consider trading him for Lebrom AND Durant. Best PF/C in the league .. hell, maybe for decades.

He also had one of the best turnover to assist ratios of any big man this year. He protects the ball. Ball protection equals championships.

*this positivity is making me happy*

I think it would be smart too. Screw being too cool for it. It will tell you something I believe. Timberwolves boards were glad to get rid of Al and they all seen the same things we did.

Ask yourself this. Do you legitimatley think you and some other people know what you are talking about? The answer is yes. Basketball isnt rocket science. Fans can judge players pretty well. And they know all there is to know too. Gm's and scouts cant watch all the players and all the games. I think local fans are a great conduit for a feel on a player. Especially if they have had a large sample size.

I floated Al Jefferson on another board, and the posters' feedback is that he is in the same boat as Iguodala and Josh Smith in terms of trade value. Fans from Atlanta, Boston, Orlando, Milwaukee and Denver like Al Jefferson. It's just this board where he gets trashed.

Well .. that's one thing I have in common with big Al.

I think if we keep half of the threads on the front page Al-bashing threads then that may change. But I like your feedback.

I think the biggest thing Al's trade value has going for him is that he just clearly wasn't a good fit with the rest of Utah's personnel. That still gives him a bit of that "potential card" if a GM thinks his team compliments Al.

another thing going for Al's value is the lackluster FA market this year. Someone trying to clear space for Dwight and the '13 class might be very interested.

If GM's are relying on message boards to get the low down on players, then their scouts are garbage and they should not be a GM.
