Frustrating preseason. The overall sloppiness and lack of intensity was concerning.

Really interesting game las time. That was the starting lineup that I've been asking for for the last month. I think it gives us our best combination of offense and defense between the first and second units. The only thing i'd like to see experimented with is trying Alec with the starters instead of Hood. I think Alec will be better off the bench but not 100% sure.

I think we beat about half the teams in the leauge last night playing how we did. Nuggets were absolutely awful. But, at least we did it without hood or hayward having good games. If those two were even average then we beat most teams in the league.

Was a HUGE relief to see Rudy have a break out game. I was legitimately worried about him. It was against the worst centers in the league but still, the fire was there for the first time in the preseason.

Burke has been a breath of fresh air so far. I love him as a bench scorer. I think its so plangently obviously thats who he is.

Did anyone else expect a lot more assists out of Neto? Nobody would average 10 assists in this offense, but I still thought Neto would be more of a facilitator then he has been. Neto also needs to learn who he can and can't be a pest to on defense. He is GREAT at disrupting average to below average athletes. The above average athletes are going to torch him over and over if he doesn't learn to back off a little bit.

Alec i'm worried about. He has shown he is super talented but makes the biggest mental mistakes on the team. We could of potentially won the Thunder game is he makes his wide open layup and doesn't fall asleep on the best offense player in the world on the next play. Same type of plays happened tonight. That 3 he gave up when his man shot a 3, then got his own offense rebound and shot another wide open 3 because Alec was watching from the front row was unbelievable. We all know his on ball defense is decent, but his team defense I believe is the worst on the team.

I'm also a little worried about Gtime. I have a feeling the intensity will be there once the games matters but its still has me a little worried that he didn't show more glimpse during the preseason season.

I wish we would of been able to have 2 consistent games with lineups. We have experimented every single game, and just don't have the continuity we should have at this point to be a playoff team.

The big rotation is scary. Book is great in small doses but has looked a little off this preseason. That leaves us with Jeff, Tibor, and Lyles.... Terrifying. We really need one more rotation quality big. Jingles and Gtime playing the 4 will only work against a handful of teams.

I think its going to be a rocky start to the season. I think we are talented enough to get some wins early but they will be tough and ugly wins. This team has no idea who it is on either end yet.

Good post.

- I agree that Burke is a scorer for the bench, that is huge for this team. If he can get consistent...

- The intensity was something that Snyder talked about in that "mic drop' after the Thunder game. It goes beyond Hayward and Gobert. Every player played some soft games. If they want to take the next step they need to have that intensity every night.

- As for Neto's assists. I am not that worried. He is a Euro player learning American/NBA style ball for the first time. I think his assists will tick up. But the total assist number for the team is disappointing and surprising given Snyder's "obvious unselfishness" mantra.

- Last nights game put a lot of people more at ease on a lot of issues.

- I really want to see this exact lineup in the regular season to see how it does.

Still slightly concerned the teams we beat where the Lakers, who are terrible, and the Nuggets (who rested 6 rotation players).

I'm also relieved Rudy was able to up his energy for the last game. I was slightly concerned Rudy might have had some lingering injury/soreness from FIBA play that was hampering his movements.

I'm also slightly concerned with Alec. I say slightly because we have to give him the benefit of the doubt since he was out for so long. He deserves a bit of an adjustment period before any final opinions can be levied. I think our best potential lies with him starting, but I think Hood is the easier fit and would result in more wins early on. It's imperative the Jazz get off to a good start, so I think Hood should start over Burks to open the season.

0 worries about Hayward. I also think he kind of has to re-learn how to play with Burks (if he starts) and even Hood to an extent because it seems as Hood is taking more of the scoring load. I really hope if Hood starts he learns to be a better ball-mover. Over-dribbling is one thing with the 2nd unit but not a good idea with the starters.

Also, I'm not convinced Neto is a better defensive player than Burke. Give me a full season and some advanced stats, but Neto gambles a lot and it worries me vs. starting PG's. Burke has at least been staying disciplined on and off ball and had active hands in the passing lanes. Also not convinced he should start over Burke. I'd say that is a toss up for me.

Also, I doubt anyone's assist tick up soon. Hood has learned to become a more 1-on-1 scorer and Burks is adding another 1-on-1 scorer. I feel like our assist might even get worse this year and we will just score even more unassisted baskets.

Gordon was intentionally deferring. Then he got hurt. Not worried.

Alec deserves a few games to shake off rust.

Nobody should have had expectations for Neto. He is a "wait and see" guy is there ever was one. Also, his euro stats weren't something to wow over.

We could definitely use a legit stretch big. Lyles can't grow up too fast.

Burke is a benchie.

I hope Gobert wakes up when things actually count. His freethrow shooting is very troubling.

It has nothing to do with a mantra or lack of passing. It's everything to do with spacing and lack of easy baskets we are able to generate in the half-court. When you can't consistently have cutting lanes open up in the paint for easy assist opportunities, you are relying on made jump shots for assist in most cases. Add in the fact that our interior scoring comes largely off of offensive rebounds, post-ups, and individual drives (which will increase with Alec) I doubt we crack the top 15 in assist until our shooting proves itself enough to open the court up.

He really needs to rework his form into something he can consistently repeat. He might have the most inconsistent FT mechanics in the NBA, which is sad because he actually has some shooting touch unlike a DeAndre Jordan.

I agree that the backup big rotation is scary. I think Tibor has the capability to be decent, but he has a lot to catch up on in a fast moving league. I am more concerned with the lack of ball distribution. It was a little better in the second Portland game, but besides that I have seen WAY too much one on one. We do not have the players to win that way, and it is not the way the Jazz I know are supposed to play. We don't have any mega superstars, but we have enough talent to go far if everyone buys into the system. However, it starts with the guards, and I have seen very selfish guard play. Hopefully that trend does not continue.

Agreed. We finished the OKC game with something like 10 assists.

Pretty sure I read somewhere the Jazz led the preseason in number of passes, and consequentially the highest % of passes that didn't result in an assist.

So I dont think it's a selfish issue as much as it's a "there is no space to do much, I have to go 1-on-1". I think the longer that happens, the more it becomes ingrained to fall back to that, so it's important we continue to take our 3pt shots when open off the catch.

I liked the new ways CQ has been using Burke on offense. His search dribble was pretty sexy a few games, and seemed unique from the playbook side.

Who is going to start for us to begin the season? I was listening to Locke, and he said that Burks was going to start at point guard. Is this true? I have not really watched much of the preseason, or kept up with what is going on from the beat writers and what not.
